My daughter is a high school senior who is dual enrolled at Toccoa Falls College. She was taking English 123 and had issues with the professor from the start. On 3/7/24, she was accused of using and AI generator to write her essays and journal entries and given a zero for the entire course. She was 2 assignments from the end of the course. We met with the Vice President of Dual Enrollment and showed evidence where the professor had told my daughter to use Grammarly Premium, which is an AI generator, that she was also told to send her papers to the tutoring service for review and edits, emails showing that I had reviewed and edited her essay, as well as research articles documenting the inaccuracies of AI detection programs. The ** of Dual Enrollment stated that my review and editing of her essays would be considered plagiarism, even though the professor had previously told her to send the essays to the tutor for review and editing. He also said that he believed one of two things happened; that my daughter did use AI to write her papers or that I had written them for her, neither of which are true. When asked what the next step would be for us to fight this decision, he stated that he was the **** of this area, that he was the final step in the process, and that the zero for the class would stand. Based on the appeal process in the *** student handbook, my daughter should have been able to present her case before a College ************************* organized by an appeal officer. My daughter has received no correspondence other that the email from the professor dismissing her from the class. She was 2 assignments away from completing the course and submitted those final two assignments even though she had already been given an academic fail. She deserves to receive credit for the class or at the very LEAST have the class removed from her transcript so that this doesn't affect her ability to get into a different college. After May, she will no longer be attending ***.
