I was incarcerated during a 59 day period between August 5, 2024 and October 3, 2024. My 2010 ****** Altima was supposed to be parked at a friend's residence, undisturbed. Swanson Towing claims that on September 30, 2024 my vehicle was picked up following an accident. No information on the accident, the car's occupants, vehicle condition or anything else were provided. When I informed the receptionist that I was incarcerated during that period of time and that my vehicle had obviously been stolen and wrecked, she still argued that I would still be required to pay a $300 access fee in order to access any of my personal affects. I was homeless and living in my car prior to my incarceration, so the vehicle contains all my vital records paperwork, all my clothing, the tools I use for my job as well as items that hold significant sentimental value. I do not have $300 to pay the access fee, they are going to keep the vehicle and informed me that it would be sold at auction. I just want to recover my personal items from the vehicle without being charged for something that is out of my control.

Hello, we do have the vehicle still here on the property. Unfortunately our policy is that we either need a claim # from your insurance company if they are handling the stolen claim or you would in fact have to pay your access (which is your initial tow cost) in order to obtain all personal effects from the vehicle. There is an exception to this rule and that is if you have any of the following items inside your vehicle we can get them out for you and there would be no charge. The items are as follows: medication of any kind, house keys, garage door opener, prescription glasses, credit cards or any paperwork with your personal information on it. Unfortunately., while I do understand your situation and you having no control over the vehicle being stolen/wrecked, if you do not have comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy at the time the vehicle was stolen, then  the responsibility does fall into the lap of the owner of the vehicle. Henry County does have a ************************* located in ********* that may be able to assist you somehow.. Hopefully I have been able to answer all of your questions.
