    My daughter ************* attends Savannah State University on 1/30/2024 someone hacked/ stole her parent plus refund from the school account which banks with Hartford! The hacker had the money send to a green dot card which is a ******* card! I have contacted ******************************* which has contacted ******** she is also working with the bank! I have escalated the call to *************************** which advised they are trying to get the *** involved! The Hacker changed ****** and other students bank information to the greendot card number and thats how they stole all the financial aid refunds! I believe all students were involved because the person took so much money that it is a federal crime! The school will not release how many students were involved! I did have ****** file a police report with the University Police which they did not have *** intelligence to assist! As of today Savannah State has not refunded the $4664.78 parent plus loan refund.Canelya ********** *********************** Is there anything else I can do to get this money returned?

    Unfortunately, our institution had a small population that clicked on phishing emails and fell victim to cybercrimes. As this is an ongoing investigation that the institution, the ******* State ************************** and the ************** of ************* are actively working on, we cannot share all the details. We have communicated with the complainant and other state and federal agencies on this matter including the ********** of ********* as applicable. We are saddened that a small population of students has fallen victim to cybercrimes. Before processing the refund, the institution contacted all students and requested that they review their bank account information. Most of our students confirmed their banking information was accurate, but we know that ten students did not.
    Additionally, the institution has implemented additional security measures, including Multi-Factor Authentication, to help mitigate the cyber concerns. We are in the process of procuring crediting monitoring for the affected students. We are exploring other allowable legal and financial options for addressing this matter through the State ************************** We will continue to update the student as new information is presented.
