I hired Homestar for water damage mitigation services at my property, and unfortunately, I must report a very unsatisfactory experience. Despite paying in full for a service that promised to thoroughly dry out the water under my floor, subsequent checks revealed that the subfloor was still wet. I have photographic evidence showing the moisture that remained, clearly indicating that the work was not completed to the promised standard. After discovering the issue, I reached out to Homestar to address these concerns. However, my experience with their customer service has compounded my frustration. Despite multiple emails and clear communication on my part, my attempts to resolve this matter have been met with an alarming lack of response. It has been several weeks since my last correspondence with ******, who has not provided any update or resolution path. This lack of accountability and failure to deliver not only the promised service but also basic customer care is unacceptable. I am left with no choice but to warn potential customers. Based on my experience to date, I advise caution to anyone considering their services. The Homestar Group Response

*************** has reached out to us about this issue however, She did not reach out to us immediately before hiring someone else to do the work. Our contract states that if there are any issues with work we completed then the customer must notify our company and allow us to perform warranty work on the issue. In this case she hired a company to do the work and then sent us a $2000 bill expecting to be paid. We have reviewed her situations and asked for "Dry Logs" and "Equipment Photos" and "Inspection Logs" and we have yet to receive them. These requests are a minimal standard that any company dealing with an ***************** would have to provide if they provided mitigation work and we have yet to receive anything. We have responded and communicated with ************** on many occasions asking for documentation to back up the claims and we have been presented with a photos of a small pool of water about the size of a glass/cup of water spilled on the floor. Obviously if there was a legit mitigation company that performed work at this home they could provide us with everything we have asked for to verify a $2000 invoice. Putting that aside, we were not provided any notification or right to repair as it states in our contract as well as it is by law in the ***********. We are willing to honor EVERYTHING that we work on and stand by our commitments but we are not interested in being extorted for money.Review from Ranelle S

Homestar has been a breath of fresh air. My home had water damage in the kitchen downstairs and bathroom. I was DEVASTATED! They are very professional working with my Public Adjuster and I. **** came to do an estimate/consultation he was very knowledgeable professional and kind. They were upfront with their insurance business license and disclosures. They are working with my PA to provide a detailed scope to my insurance company and completed my estimate within 3 DAYS! Im very satisfied and definitely recommend working with HOMESTAR!Review from Linda R

This company did a great job on my home. They helped me with my insurance company and they bent over backwards to help us with all of the existing issues that we had on our home before the storm. The owners were incredible and spent alot of time with me and and family making sure that all of the problems we faced with the Insurance company. If there was an issue on my home then they didnt mind helping me with it. The construction process on repairing a home sucks but they made it as simple for me as they possible could. If I ever have another repair that needs to be done on my home I will hire them immediately.Review from Anne W

Too bad I can't leave less than one star. Run far and fast from this company, and particularly from the owner. A company is only as good as the man in charge. Even though I am overall pleased with the house that he built, and have told him so several times, he never followed up on the punch list, despite numerous promises that he would. There was sloppy craftsmanship in a number of places -kitchen, garage, both front and back porches- that he refused to fix. I've been in the house a year and a half. The owner stopped communicating after I moved in, and after he bullied me into completing payments, even though we both knew the work was not done. I complied, against the advice of many people including the bank and a lawyer. As I suspected, once payment was given in full, he disappeared. Very poor communication and tactics. Extremely poor customer service. The concept of customer service seems to be foreign to this owner. The words "my personal dislike for you" were in an email to me. I was denigrated for feeling bullied; I know what bullying feels like. Who talks to customers that way? Changes during construction were made without my authorization; which I had to keep because it was too late or too expensive to change them. I'm not saying they were all bad, but the owner has the right to be consulted before, not left to find out after. To be fair, they did fix a couple of things after I pointed out that they were not what I wanted. Nice, but that does not make up for everything else. Bad decisions were made in construction; for example; flooring was put in before the walk-in bath tub was installed. They had to be torn up and replaced in that room. This was added to my expenses, which I protested. A half-wall had to be constructed and a window raised because they ordered a tub that was too large for the space. The tub sat on site for over a month with no one noticing the problem until the installer came- causing more delays. The driveway was very late being put in, causing more delays because things could not be delivered. Expenses for things that were not done, or were done because of their mistakes, were added to my bill. It became so obvious that I had to go through the charges line-by-line because I couldn't trust any of it. The personal family problems of the owner (and project manager) interfered with the timely construction of my house. After long delays (and the aforementioned personal dislike for me), he finally turned it over to another project manager, and that's when things finally started happening. I paid for repairs out of pocket- over $5000. A lawyer was engaged to get reimbursement, but that was ignored. This seems to be the business model and habit of this owner in my experience. Too bad I didn't do my research first. I do not want resolution. I have washed my hands of this and want a very unpleasant experience put behind me. I respect myself and my contentment too much put myself through the stress of a lawsuit. Please be warned.Review from J C

Homestar group was hired for repairing our home after a tree had fallen on it. S******** recommended Homestar group to make repairs. We thought since the insurance company referred them that would be the best course of action. Work started on our home in December of 2020. We payed them every week per contract signed. January of 2021 the said that the job was completed and the last bill was received by us the homeowners. We decided to give a thorough walk-through of the work that was done bye Homestar to list any complaints we had before the last bill was paid knowing we would never see them again if we paid it. We noticed the w*** done was not done correctly and our home was open to the elements (driving wind, rain, and open to animals to get in) we contacted them January of 2021 sending pictures and a formal complaint we where not happy with how our home was left.
Further investigation by us revealed that home store group never pulled a permit for any part of the house they repaired. Permits are supposed to be pulled for any structural framing which majority of our roof was torn off reframed and then reroofed. Jeremy Y*** the owner admitted in writing that they didn't pull a permit. Jeremy Y*** assured me that he handles problems like this directly in our home would be repaired properly very shortly. I requested Jeremy Y*** and Home star group to have a permit pulled before any more work or repairs start on my home he did so in April 2021. Cherokee county came out to do a final inspection since Homestar Group left my home as complete. The inspection failed under numerous violations. We contacted Homestar group and Jeremy Y*** to inform him about the failed county inspection. We were responded with belittling comments, as well as very vulgar responses by Jeremy Y***.
We are now into august of 2021 and Homestar group hasn't made the first attempt to make any repairs. We have paid Homestar group in excess of $30,000 to repair our home and it is not correct nor will it pass any forum of inspections. Do not deal with this company or anyone associated with them. Jeremy Y***, Bryan K*** are thieves in my book. Their business license and contractors license should be revoked in the state. We the homeowners have given Homestar group 8 months to make our home correct per insurance contract. We keep getting put on the back burner by Homestar group like this problem will just dissolve away. We are not going quietly. Homestar group is forcing our hand to take further action against their business in the near future.
Please don't do business with this contractor. You have been warned!
I wish we could add pictures of the work Homestar group did to our home calling it a job well done and complete as they left it.
We as homeowners expect all the work to be redone and inspected by the county before we sign off on completion. The Homestar Group Response

We have offered many times to come out to repair this issue with the customer and they have refused to allow us on site with our crew. We have email documentation regarding this along with multiple occasions in asking us on site to repair. I implore the BBB to not post this until they have reviewed our documentation and proof of trying to honor this warranty. It is not fair to post a review on a company that wants to honor the work only to be told no. We want to get this customer taken care of but this review is not a fair representation of the facts at this timeCustomer Response

We requested that no crews come back out until a permit with the county was pulled.
One was not pulled when Homestar Group started on our home in December of 2020. I have in writing from the owner of Homestar group admitting they did not pull a permit nor have proper inspections done the first time. I then told Homestar group no crews were allowed back at my home until a permit was pulled. Jeremy York owner of Homestar Group pulled a permit at my request back in May 2021. The permit he pulled now has multiple failed inspections that are listed on the counties website for my property. Since May when the permit was pulled Homestar group has continually pushed us further back on schedule to fix the home. I called the subcontractor that did the work originally and Webb the owner of that company informed me they do not do metal roofs anymore nor do they work for Homestar group and have not in over four months. There has been zero attempt to come out and fix my home since the proper permit was pulled in May 2021. I have documentation with written evidence from Jeremy Y*** with Homestar Group admitting no permit was pulled when the work started back in December nor was it ever inspected. Homestar Group did work in a county with out proper permits and inspection protocols.
I will be happy to provide any documentation proving these statements. The Homestar Group Response

We are 100% committed to making adjustments to the metal roof where needed as i stated in our previous response. We were ready to do so when we were notified of the issue but we're told not to bring the Crew back on site. I wish we would have been given the go ahead at that time then we would not be at this point however we are. And as the owner of the company i am fully committed to these adjustments that are need. Thankfully they are cosmetic and there are no leaks at all and none have ever happened. As is stated previously. We will honor and stick to our commitment.
