    Additional Info:
The following comments provide general information for consumers, and do not necessarily reflect the practices or record of any particular company.

Plan a move 6 to 8 weeks in advance. Ask friends or neighbors to recommend companies. Contact each company about cost and types of services offered and compare. For regulations concerning moves within a state, contact your local or state government. Charges for state to state moves are determined by weight, volume and distance shipped.

Ask for estimates. Show movers every item to be moved, including contents of your attic, basement and garage. Ask the mover to explain the estimate and reach a clear understanding about the packing and other services. Keep a copy of the estimate.

Before packing begins, an inventory of household goods is made. An inventory record is an important shipping document so make sure all copies are legible, and that all items are numbered, listed and described correctly.

You may want to pack part of your belongings. However, movers usually will not accept liability for breakage to "owner-packed" items or they may require the driver to inspect the cartons. Ask about company policy and for advice on packing materials and procedures.

Try to be present when the mover loads and unloads. Immediately report missing or damaged items in detail on the van driver's copy (original) of the inventory sheet before you sign it. If you notice damaged items after you unpack your goods, you will need to file a claim.

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, two employees of McCarley Moving & Storage Co. Inc, an Agent for United Van Lines stole $2000 from my home while packing my household goods. Two gentlemen who introduced themselves as the lead and second in command of the moving crew were packing the master bedroom. The second in command packed up my husband’s side of the room. At the same time, the lead packed up my side. I had two purses hanging on the left inside hook of my closet. One purse was Coach brand name, and the other grey no name. Both purses were zipped closed. The Coach purse contained the 2000 dollars in four different envelopes. I contacted the company the next morning to tell them of the theft. The female’s (who answered the call) demeanor during our conversation conveyed a certain level of disregard and an uncaring and unsympathetic feel to it. She at that point was resprenting the company. I asked for the names of the two gentlemen who packed the master bedroom, and she was reluctant to give it to me. Instead, offered to have the lead speak to me since he was right next to her. At no time did she offer an apology nor compensation for the theft. The owner of the company never reached out. Instead they were more concern abt having the same crew finish the job. The new moving crew that came to complete the job made me aware that the initial packing was done incorrectly. McCarley Movers placed my military ProGear with my civilian clothes and shoes. They packed candles, costume jewelry, and batteries. Threw my clothes carelessly into boxes. They could not even be bothered enough to tape the boxes shut properly. McCarley were in a hurry to complete the job but did not complete it correctly and did not do a quality job. They broke multiple regulations. They should be prevented from participating in government contracts. Military service members deserve better. I believe the military community (which is numerous in Georgia) should be aware of this company.
