I had to go to the emergency room at **********************. I provided my health insurance information. The hospital filed a claim. The emergency room ******* *** is with Tennessee River Physicians, did not file a claim with my insurance, nor send me any bills. They recently sold this bill for $1400 to a collection agency and never filed a medical claim with my insurance. Ive tried to contact their billing department, but it does not exist. The call forwards over to the hospital and the hospital billing states they do not handle provider billing!! There is no way to contact Tennessee River Physicians billing so they can file a claim with my insurance.

Dear *** or *************************************************** PLLC appreciates the opportunity to respond to the above-referenced consumer complaint.
Please be informed that we previously contacted the carriers (****************** & BCBS(TN) directly on behalf of the patient regarding processing of the claim for this date of service. However, both carriers responded stating that the coverage was inactive for the patient. We then contacted the patient by email/text and no response or payment received. Therefore, several months later we submitted the account to the collection vendor for non-payment.

I was treated in the Erlanger-Baroness ER in ***********, ** on Saturday, March 1, and received a bill several weeks later from Tennessee River Physicians, in addition to my bill from Erlanger Health, in the amount of over $1,200. Although my insurance covered nearly all the charges, and I was thankfully only responsible for $65.47 worth of the charges, the itemized statement I received from Erlanger made it incredibly difficult for me to understand how Tennessee River Physicians could have racked up an additional $1,200 worth of charges when I only interacted with a physician for 15, maybe 20 minutes. I called the provided phone number (for PaymentsMD, not the practice itself) and requested an itemized bill (which I am legally entitled to upon request), but I was told those could not be provided. I was offered an "expanded statement" (or something like that) that I was told on two different occasions would be sent to my email within 5 business days. It has now been several months, and I have received no such statement. I went ahead and paid the bill today to avoid being sent to collections, but I still think I should receive an itemized bill so Tennessee River Physicians can prove that they legitimately billed my insurance and me for $1,200 worth of services in addition to the $1,200 worth of services the hospital billed for only 20 minutes of treatment. Further, I am incredibly frustrated that my only contact point was an overseas representative with the billing agency, and I cannot find any way at all to contact the actual practice that is receiving these funds.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I will note, however, I would encourage Tennessee River Physicians PLLC to reconsider the firms to whom you outsource so much of your work. It was not clearly conveyed to me that ER physicians charge a flat fee that does not need brown down; in fact, one of the representatives actually told me exactly the opposite and said he would send me some sort of explanation of charges that never materialized. Had I been able at all to contact someone who is actually physically present in and employed by your office to have a two minute conversation (or even an email exchange) about this, I would never have filed this complaint. Its a shame that filing a months-long complaint with the BBB was the only way I was able to get around the subpar, outsourced billing service.

Thank you very much for your attention and response to this matter. I appreciate your time and effort.

    Sincerely,

    ***** ****

Tennessee River Physicians sent a bill in September 2023 stating I owed $1500 for undisclosed services. The bill listed an insurance that was not mine so i called to figure out what was going on. When i called and stated there was an insurance agency listed that *** never used they said they had no insurance information on file for me so I provided them with my insurance. This was followed up with a second letter a few weeks later now stating my correct insurance information yet they claimed my insurance didnt cover the full amount. I called my insurance and they had never received a claim from the company. I relayed this information while also telling them that they would have to bill through *** since my insurance was out of network and provided the information needed to properly bill. Fast forward a month or 2 and I check my insurance again after receiving a bill and they inform me they have not filed it correctly with UHC as nothing has come through to them. Now its 2025 and because Tennessee River Physicians was negligent in filing with my provided insurance theyve sold my debt to collections, the collections agency never notified me prior to reporting to credit agencies and now I am experiencing credit hardships over a debt that was supposed to be filed with insurance. Tennessee river physicians never provided an itemized statement of what the $1500 was for and failed to do their part in filing claims correctly resulting in them selling my information to a debt collection agency. Tennessee River Physicians ruined my credit over their negligence and lack of effort on their part to file with my insurance. Id like ********************** River Physicians to resolve this debt and make a correction to credit reporting agencies as they failed to complete their due diligence in properly filing with insurance resulting in unnecessary credit hardships, which are critical being only 25.

I am rejecting this response because:

The business did not contact me directly to resolve this matter, a collections agency, in which my bill was sold to, was posted to my credit report without informing me it had even gone to collections which is how I found out that my bill was not handled properly through insurance which TN physicians failed to do correctly. TN physicians failed to bill my insurance correctly through out of network means in which myself and my insurance informed them was needed to be done. I stopped receiving correspondence from TN physicians and had assumed since they had the correct billing information that it was handled until I saw my credit report and learned it was in fact not handled. This business is scammy with threatening bills from day 1 and improperly handles patients billing. The hospital never informed me I would be billed through third party billing outside of their own billing department so receiving this bill after all was paid through the hospital was a sure shock and then TN physicians failed to do their job and wrongfully ruined my credit report. My insurance had approved the $1,500 bill as it was an emergency service out of network and had TN physicians actually billed them correctly this would have been handled through insurance and not collections. The business owes me a refund for the hardships I have gone through with my credit being wrongfully reported.

    Sincerely,

The account is being closed too late as collections has already collected said debt, is TN physicians going to reimburse the $1500 that was wrongfully collected from the patient since they can now suddenly wipe away a bill due to their neglect? Health New England and myself informed TN physicians of the out of network billing and I personally provided my information for that as well and it was never resubmitted per our records. I would like my $1500 reimbursement as it was collected wrongfully and has caused not only credit hardships due to them reporting without my knowledge but it has since caused financial hardships as $1500 is not an easy loss especially when this was going to be covered by insurance had it been properly filed.

I received a notification on my *********** that said my account needed attention. I normally have a 800 or just shy credit score...always. It had dropped almost 200 points due to an outstanding bill from a creditor that I NEVER received a bill/statement from prior to going to collections. I've searched online and others are saying the same thing from a APP TENNESSEE ******. The amount I supposedly owe is $2,077.00, but no one can provide me information on where it's from or from when. I just got another notification from Experian that my credit score is now under 600 due to this same report. My credit score (and sanity) should not suffer due to this, as I do not owe this company over $2,000.

This business has double charged me and my insurance for my emergency room visit on 7/7/2023. They charged me $1703, which was paid 9/28/23. They then charged my insurance. My EOB reflects that I should owe $0 on this visit. They refuse to refund me $1703. They have played back and forth with my account saying they would refund me within 90 days. When the 90 days comes around, they cannot find my account anymore. They have received 2 payments for my one visit. I have been calling numerous times. I just want a refund

So no one can provide me a bill via email, fax or mail or anything regarding this. Then a guy by the name of ***** calls claiming to be with debt collector so I asked him for a bill and cant produce it but wants me to make a payment. I called hospital that I did go to in *********, ** and they said I have no outstanding bills. Think Im getting scammed and a victim of cyber crime

Credit ****************** called me a few days ago and informed me that I owe $1224.00 for a bill I never received from a Nov.2022 visit to my local **. At the time of the first call, the representative was very unclear as to what the bill was about or where it came from. He was very adamant about how I was going to pay the bill and when. I asked him to send me the paperwork on the bill because I hadn't received anything, he refused to do so.I was finally able to get him to send me an email with more details. That is when I saw the original creditor listed as App of Tennessee ******* and the current creditor listed as *************** Funding LLC. I do not know anything about either of those companies, actually never heard of them. The third call came two days after the first call, this time I informed him that I called my local ** billing department and they had never heard of either one of the companies listed above & gave me the number to the collection agency they used, I called the agency and asked them about the companies and again, they had never heard of the companies either, that is when my call was redirected to a manager, the manager informed me that the bill was on my credit report. I asked him to give me the name of the doctor, he said "*********", he did not give me her last name. (The doctor I seen that day at the ** was a male doctor) I told him I never received a bill and had no opportunity to pay it and I asked him to send me the paperwork for it, he refused, told me the paperwork was already sent and he was not sending it again, then he hung up on me. My wish for this issue, to have the account closed and taken off my credit report. I feel this company was/is trying to scam money from me. Also, whenever they called me, the number they called from was different and from a different state and showed up once as "Potential Spam" on my cell phone.

I was in a wreck in Jan. 2022. I had insurance at the time , everything was paid . I randomly got a credit alert that I have an account in collections with 14 APP OF TENNESSEE ED **** owing approximately $1200. The hospital has no history of me owing a bill. This is strange that I have an account in collections without no notice . That is illegal. I am seeing a lot of similar experiences.

I know this is a long shot but I want people to be aware of this company! I am in the process of purchasing a car and this company shows up that I am in collections for $505. The law is anything under $500 can NOT be reported to your credit. Also, the law states that after 4 years from the last billing statement they can not collect. ALL of My medical bills are paid and up to date. I've never seen this company nor been to a hospital or received emergency care since 2015. I have paid all those bills. I have disputed this claim against both creditors however because of Tennessee Emergency Physicans false information they will not dismiss it. It is very suspicious that they have a bill $5 over the limit and I've never received a bill from this company. Also, per BBB reviews it looks like I'm not the only one they are taking advantage. It is extremely unethical! i was in the medical field and did billing for 5 years!

Never received any bills and was referred to a debt collector. Requested billing during first contact in 2023 with debt collector -- no bills ever sent to us. Following additional contact in January 2024 with debt collector, have yet to receive a bill though matter has been reported to all major credit bureaus by debt collector. Third contact with debt collector in Feb 2024 and first contact with billing company; still no bills to show nature of service and insurance payments received.

She provided a fax number for TRICARE to send the Proof of Insurance.  I indicated I would contact TRICARE to proceed on this course of action.  While my dispute is not completely resolved, we appear to be headed toward satisfactory resolution.
