On 10-13-2025, I visited *************************** ************************** located at ************************************************ for nail services that cost $60. When I went to pay using my **** debit card, the merchant informed me that there would be an additional 3% fee for using a debt card. I explained that I was paying with a debit card, not a credit card.Merchants are not permitted to add surcharges on debit card transactions, even if the debit card is run as credit. This is a violation of **** & MasterCard merchant rules and potentially Florida consumer protection laws. This business has been operating this way since 2019, meaning this improper fee has likely been charged to many customers for several years. If each transaction included a 3% surcharge, the total amount collected improperly could be substantial. I believe this practice is deceptive and unfair to consumers, and I request that the consumer protection office investigates this businesss credit and debit card processing I would like Palm Springs ************************** to stop charging debit card customers a 3% credit card fee immediately and to clearly post all payment-related fees in advance as required by **** & MasterCards debit card rules and Florida consumer law. I would also like the business to refund the 3% improper surcharge that was charged to me and for **** (or the appropriate state agency) to investigate and take any necessary enforcement actions to ensure the merchant complies with payment regulations going forward. if a business has been improperly charging debit card customers a 3% credit card fee for six years, thats not a small mistake anymore.Youre talking about a pattern of deceptive business practice that could have affected hundreds or thousands of customers and potentially violated:Card network rules (Mastercard, ****)Floridas Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA)If he collects a 3% surcharge on $1,000 a day for six years, he would collect $65,700 in total.
