    July 7, 2022 $185.44 This report is about the bad experience I had at AJ's Bikes and Boards in Valrico. This is a copy of the letter I gave to Darren. AJ's Bikes, LLC 1538 Bloomingdale Avenue Valrico, FL 33596 813-685-2453 Good day. I have been a satisfied AJ's customer for years and am glad to see the business is thriving. I've purchased two bikes since I've lived here, and if I decide to get another, it will likely be from AJ's. Hopefully, the feedback I am providing in this note will improve your customer service. Bottom Line: The bike given the deluxe tune-up left the shop in far worse shape than it was when it went in on Wednesday, 6 July. It is essentially unrideable. The front derailer control only moves after applying excessive force. And I think the trim is off. I did not catch it in my test ride around your building because I did not try to use it, given the limited space around the building. Lesson-learned on my part. When I discovered it when I got home, I immediately stopped the ride, afraid I would break something. Here's what happened. I brought in two bikes. One for the deluxe tune-up (Cannondale) and to have some parts moved from the 2nd bike (Trek) to the Cannondale. I told Eric to keep the bikes as long as needed - the same thing I tell my motorcycle service department - I just want it done right. I also asked about a military discount; he said yes, 10%. He said it would be ready Saturday 9 July, and requested I pick it up then because space is at a premium because you are so busy. Then he said he would call me when it was ready. He offered this; I did not ask. (And he never called me; I waited around for hours for a call that did not come. I finally called at 2 PM - very difficult to get someone on the phone - and was told it was ready. I also texted the shop about 3 times, a nice aspect of your business website, but never received a reply. Not good.) Please see uploaded file for complete details.

    Ten years ago, I purchased a bicycle from AJ’s Bikes. A wonderful place to do business. Friendly, courteous, competitive prices. I could not be happier with a business. Recently I had an issue with the shifting operation. AJ’s worked on the bike and it worked fine for about 100 miles and started acting up again. By the time I had 300 miles since the repair, the chain would come off every time I shifted into the lowest gear. I took the bike back and an employee adjusted the bike. I was charged a fee with the explanation: “You rode the bike. If it had happened when first taken home, they would stand by the workmanship but you used it and that is wear and tear.” (Components that worked flawless for over 12,000 miles now wear and fail after 300 miles when AJ’s Bikes works on them?!) 100 miles later, the precursors to the last failure began anew. Shortly after, I had a flat tire and took the bike in for repair and mentioned to the mechanic my issue. He replied: “I can’t duplicate the issue on the stand so there is nothing we can do.” AJ’s is now zero for 3 in correcting a problem. I called a competitor, who said it was 1 of 2 issues. I took it in and it was the second issue diagnosed over the phone. Problem now solved. I will always remember AJ’s Bikes as a pleasant place to do business. Just do not get them involved in complex issues like shifting mechanisms. Also, some of the first words to me from my now new bike mechanic: “Your rear brake is paper thin. You are almost metal to metal.” AJ’s Bikes does not train their employees to do visual safety checks of customers bikes. Zero for 3 on a second subject.
