I hired Morton Roofing on July 13, 2024. Initially, I hired them to repair a roof leak near a window. However, since my roof was old and my home was on the market, I decided to have the entire roof *********** first, Morton Roofing seemed like a great choice. They offered a fair price of 17, ******. I paid $11,840.00 and a partial lien was released. I acknowledge a balance of 5,960.00.Unfortunately, once the project began, it turned into a complete disaster. The workers were unprofessional and showed no respect for my property. As the job progressed, things only got worse. The laborers scattered debris all over the property causing tears in my vinyl siding. When they removed the gutters, they dented them and carelessly piled them on the ground without protection. The worker assigned to fix the window leak did such poor work that I had to hire someone else to redo it. The project, which was supposed to take two weeks, dragged on for over five months! After the shingles were removed, my roof was left exposed for months, covered only with black tar paper. During this time, the workers barely showed up, emails went unanswered, and calls were ********** make matters worse, heavy rain caused extensive damage inside my homewindows leaked, mold developed on the walls, and the ceilings suffered water damage. After months of back-and-forth, **** ********************** finally sent a crew to complete the job. Due to the damages, Mr. ********************** agreed to have a worker make necessary repairs. During the time my roof was exposed, I contacted **********************s insurance company and filed a claim for the damages and lost time, as I was unable to list my house for sale. I was awarded a settlement. However, Mr. ********************** has now fabricated outrageous fees and charges for services I never agreed to. He then filed a lien on my property, which I contested.I am now pursuing legal action against Morton Roofing since my house is at risk of not being sold because of this lien.Business Response

Well basically, rewind to work for this lady so is your new roof put the new roof on and we had some rain come in around the edges. We fixed all the edges but that did not make her happy so we fixed her ceilings and nothing made her happy so we fix the wall.
Now the walls were not part of the roof basically it's like a trailer home and has vinyl siding in the wind has cut gases in the side and that's where she was getting most of the water okay We fixed it and I paid the guy $5,500 to fix it and asked her if she's happy and she said yes.
Next thing I get is the letter from my insurance company saying she basically double dipped and got $20,000 for the work I did $5,854.00 for.
So I've done everything I can do to make her happy I don't think it's fair that she double dipped I fixed the inside I paid the guy for the inside and he's keeping the insurance money of 20 grand So we'll see how that figures out. Some people are just basically cooks.Customer Answer

After reviewing Mr. ************************ response, Im deeply disappointed by his unwillingness to acknowledge his mistakes or take responsibility for his professional obligations. Its truly concerning that a contractor with such disregard for accountability continues to operate, and I worry about who his next unsuspecting customer might be.
I signed a contract with Morton Roofing on July 12, 2024, for a standard roof replacement. Shockingly, the work was not completed until December 2024 nearly five months later. Considering that South Florida's rainy season begins in September, my home should have been a priority. Instead, the company failed to properly protect my property, resulting in water damage that could have been avoided.
To make matters worse, during this delay, Mr. ********************** asked me to use the remaining balance I owed him to pay another roofing company (Suncoast Roofing) for materials so he could finish the job. This raised serious concerns about his financial stability, and I understandably declined. This request not only delayed the project further but created even more stress and uncertainty. The consequences were significant: my home, which had been listed for sale just two weeks before the roofing work was scheduled, had to be taken off the market due to interior leak damage. This caused emotional, financial, and logistical hardship.
Given this experience, I strongly believe that Morton Roofing should be held accountable for its unprofessional conduct. No homeowner deserves to go through what I did, and I hope this review serves as a warning to others considering this company.
Sincerely,
******* *****

before and after mold test so that she proceed with selling the home. About a week after we sent her an invoice i called to ask her if she was happy with all the repairs so we could pay the interior contractor. After we paid the interior contractor and she said she was happy we received a letter from Morton roofing insurance company stating that they paid over $20,000.00 for her interior damage that she was happy with me to make a no charge so she could keep the $20,000.00. The insurance company notified me that they paid her over $20,000.00 that I owed the insurance company $5,000.00 for the deductible on our insurance policy. Please know that she intentionally had me wait to do the repairs so she could have the insurance money valued at $20,000.00. And we did all the repairs for free. Now I am out more money due to attorneys fees to enforce my lien and foreclose to obtain are missing funds. I Have attached the final invoice showing every thing but the attorneys fees. We have offered her $17,000.00 to settle this and she could keep the $20,000.00 giving her a bonus of $3,000.00 to settle. Now that we had to hire a attorney she will have to pay our attorney fees and court cost.

I am rejecting this response because: clearly Mr. ********************** is mentally unwell. He refuses to address his responsibilities in this whole matter and continues to falsely make up situations that didn't happen. This back and forth is stressful and I ask that you decese and desist asking me to respond to Mr. **********************'s claims. This is now a court matter!

MS. *****,
Ms. ***** filed a claim with my insurance company and I was not made aware of it for over two months. to do the repair for over two months. She used a false excuse to give her the time needed for the insurance company to cut her a check for repairs to her house that we agreed I was supposed to do. She took the $20,386.09 and then allowed my contractor in to do the repairs, once she got home at 4:30 from work after Easter Vacation. It took a long time to complete the repairs. I was forced to wait for the insurance company to send her a check before she would allow me to start. I had no knowledge of this until I received the letter after I had already paid my interior contractor to repair the interior.
This allows her to keep the the complete total of $20,386.09. Now I am left with a final cost of over $19,000.00 as indicated by my final invoice above. Not only did you keep my balance of over $5,900.00 But I have to pay $5,000.00 for insurance deductible. Plus I had to pay the interior contractor $6,000.00 to fix the interior.
I was willing to settle for $18,000.00 And let her keep the $20,000. So she would come out ahead over $2,000.00. But now I've had to pay an Attorney at 3000 returned and $500.00 per hour to foreclose on the property she already sold. Now they had to keep 150% of what I lined the property for that comes to over $29,000.00 so I don't she where she is coming from.
She could have kept the $20,386.09 from the insurance company and came out ahead $2,000.00. She just has to keep the entire $20,386.09 and not pay me my final balance of $5,960.00.
Now that is one greedy woman. Plus she has deprived the new owner of a 10 year Guarantee on his new roof. In the end I will get all the escrow money of $29,000.00 plus all the attorneys fees and interest. So I will have to wait. I am just glad that you can recognize a scammer when you see one! In the end she is willing to lose over $20,000.00 plus and end up with a judgement.
Thank you for doing all the intermeeting work you had to put into this case.

Dear Better Business Bureau,
Thank you for keeping me updated regarding Mr. *********************** responses.Unfortunately, his statements are baseless and only serve to deflect from the core issuehis failure to fulfill his contractual obligations in a timely and professional manner.
Mr. ********************** was hired to repair my roof, and despite receiving payment, he delayed the work significantly, creating the very situation he now attempts to distort. His ongoing misrepresentations and refusal to take accountability further highlight his poor business practices.
I respectfully request that the Better Business Bureau investigate these matters thoroughly, as I am the one who has suffered financial loss and inconvenience due to Mr. *********************** negligence and lack of professionalism.
Given that this matter is now in the hands of the court, I also ask that I no longer receive direct communications from Mr. ********************** through this forum.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,

Rebuttal to Mr. *********************** Claims
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to clarify and correct the misleading statements made by Mr.********************** regarding our contractual relationship and the events surrounding the roof repair at my property.
1. ***** in Repairs:
Mr. ********************** was contracted to repair my roof. Despite receiving assurance that the work would be completed promptly, there were significant and unexplained delays on his part. These delays extended over several months, during which my property remained exposed to further damage.
2. Insurance Process:
Due to Mr. *********************** failure to initiate or complete the work in a timely manner, I was forced to file an insurance claim to protect my property and prevent further deterioration. The insurance process was transparent and followed standard procedures. Mr. ********************** was aware that any repairs would need to be coordinated following the settlement of the claim.
3. Payment & Financial Misrepresentation:
Contrary to Mr. *********************** claims, all funds received from the insurance company were applied directly to cover repairs and damages. Any suggestion that I withheld funds or profited improperly is false. Additionally, any contractors hired were necessary to complete work that Mr. ********************** either delayed or failed to complete.
4. Contractor Performance & Guarantees:
Mr. *********************** suggestion that the propertys new owner is being deprived of a warranty is misleading. Had the work been performed to standard and within agreed timeframes, the matter of warranty would have been straightforward. His own delays and failure to follow through are the root cause of these complications.
5. Legal Proceedings:
As this matter is now in the hands of the court system, I will refrain from engaging in further back-and-forth outside of the proper legal channels. Mr. *********************** continued accusations and threats are unhelpful and only serve to distract from the facts at hand.
In conclusion, I stand by my position that I was the party harmed by Mr.*********************** poor business practices, and I trust that the appropriate authorities will address these issues accordingly.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,

We contracted with Morton Roofing to replace our flat roofs in 2021. Our roof was perfectly fine but it was getting old - and Insurance told us we needed to replace the roof. So, we did our due diligence and found Morton Roofing. 8 months after the flat roof was replaced it started to leak. We called them right away but **** took a LONG time to come out and see what was going on. He claimed it wasn't the fault of the new roof but the "tie in". He "fixed" it anyway and fixed the drywall damage inside the house. 6 month later when it was now rainy season again it started to leak a large amount. I contacted **** and he said he would come out, then he said no, then he said it had been over 1 year so he didn't have to do anything for us. We have a 10 year warranty that he is not willing to stand behind. We just need our roof fixed and cant afford to pay another company to redo his shoddy work. He claims that the "tie ins" are only warranteed for 1 year, but I have no paperwork to indicate that. It started leaking 8 months after the roof was replaced and the current leak is in the same exact spot that he "fixed" some months before. I would hate to have anyone use this company as they are not acting in good faith. Thank you,Business Response

As I have previously stated to **************, the roof tie-in warranty as stated in the contract is for one year. While under warranty we did repair the leaking area and the ceiling which was not covered but we repaired it anyway. When we were called for a new leak the tie-in was no longer under warranty so we have no obligation to repair it. I have attached a copy of the contract for your review.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
This "back" of the contract was not on the contract that I signed - and even though requested, Mr ********************** has not produced the contract that I signed. I had no knowledge of this "back" of the contract - and as you can see was not signed by myself at all. I know that there was no "back" of the contract because I printed out the contract as it was emailed to me. The leak was due to their lack of workmanship and **** admitted it. - then he "fixed" it but it started leaking again in the same place less than 2 months later. The roof was perfectly intact when he got there had never ever had any leaks. Then a few months after the roof was replaced by ********************** - and it started to be rainy season - it started leaking. They left us much worse off after charging us for a new flat roofs. I specifically asked him - in writing - if I needed to replace anything else or if there was any other issues I needed to address and he said - No. He admitted it was their poor workmanship when he had the fellow come and replace the destroyed dry wall. It is simply not ok and I have asked him on several occasions to make the roof sound (what we already paid him for) and he said he would, then he didn't show up and now here we are. Additionally, I have requested in writing several times - who their liability insurance is and even though by law he is supposed to disclose that, he has still not provided me with that information. I am coming to the BBB because I have no where else to turn.Sincerely,

On October 3, 2023 I sent my repair crew out to the ***** residence to assess and repair the leaking areas. The leaking area was not at the tie-in or flat roof. The roof was leaking from the old tile roof in the middle of the valley half way up. Although this had nothing to do with any work MRI completed, I instructed my repair crew to repair the leaking areas once and for all. I asked *************** to give me a call after it had rained a couple of times to make sure that the roof repair was no longer leaking and water tight. It has rained several times since the roof was repaired and I never heard from *************** as I had requested. This roof leak was new and as such I have attached the repair contract, photos and invoice in the amount of $1,260.00. I now request that the ***** complaint be closed out immediately.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:Good Day,
Firstly, I did not receive any voice mails from ****. All correspondence has been through txt messaging and email. It was morton roofing's obligation to live up to his warrantee - **** texted me the morning after I responded to the last correspondence from BBB. He said he was going to come and get the roof fixed once and for all. They came without us home and redid the part that they had failed with before. There was apparently 2 fellows working on the roof for 2.5 hours. We don't know if it is going to leak again as the first 2 times he did the work, it started leaking a few months later. I did not ever agree, verbally written or otherwise, for him to charge me for the redo. Reminder - 3 other roofing companies came over and said - " Oh my they really did this wrong - tell them to come back and do it again properly." Why would I ever pay someone more to do the same job again that they failed at twice? If anything I would pay someone else who can do it properly. Now he has threatened to put a lien on our home. This is ridiculous I would never ever have agreed to giving them another dime.... and he still has not provided me with the insurance information I requested. I hope the roof is finally sound - now we have to get to fixing all the damage on the inside. **** needs to be reprimanded for even requesting more money after letting the roof leak for 8 months when it was clearly an easy quick job.
Sincerely,
