In Oct of last year I received a call from FGUA (******* is my mother and is 92) stating my moms water bill was a bit high. It usually runs $40 to $45 per month. They said it was over $8,000. I thought it was a prank call. I asked how they could let it get so high before informing her. I immediately called a plumber. I live in ******** and my mother was with me since my sister passed away. The plumber did a thorough check and found no leak. I informed FGUA of this so they sent someone else out to do another manual reading. They came back with the same result. I said maybe the meter needed to be changed. The supervisor I talked to disagreed. He informed me last May it was over $8,000 but that was their fault. I said maybe it was another mistake. Upon some investigation I found the meters they use are very old. They do not register on their computers so require manual readings. Therefore, they can't inform you when the bill starts to raise. I told them they were criminal to let it get to this point. She is 92 and lives on social security. They said maybe the pool or sprinkler system had a leek. I informed them before my dad passed away he had a well put in for the pool and sprinklers because he felt the city water was raising their rates too much. So she only uses city water for inside the home. ******* stated there was no leak. He said he would get back with me. Novemeber water bill comes in now it is over $20,500. I called Supervisor ********************* and he said he would change the meter. He would send the old one in for testing. Now we are in December. It should only take a couple of days. I waited a few weeks and called again. They forgot to send it in for testing. I waited a few more weeks but now he won't take my calls. The bills have been normal since the new meter but it still shows over $20,500 past due. I called and made an appt. and was told he would call me in the morning at 9 am. He never called. I contacted Florida Attorney General but they can't help because they both work for the government.
