    I too have been subjected to Acorn problems. When first install it had a problem with the right hand lift control. I did t report this right away as I had the left control and remotes. Then the mother board died and I waited weeks for the repair. Then it started stopping intermediatly. They came out to repair and the technician showed me a chip that was on the inside of the rail. He put porcelain paint on the chip. That did not solve my problem so they came back out and replaced a part that had flatly worn out. Now the chair is tilting on the inclines and incline down. I called the company again last week and was told I would get a return call within 24 hours. Called company again today as I hadn’t heard from them. Was told that they left a voice mail on the 21st of Nov. I received no voice mail. I have nearly fallen down the steps twice now. I was lucky to catch myself from falling all the way down the stairs but still fell down 3 steps the first time and 5 the second time. Both my husband and myself need this lift to get upstairs. I’ve had enough of this trouble. I have only owned it two years.

    The stairlift was great while it lasted, and it lasted until my father passed away. The issue I have is I called to asked about removal or if they buy parts. Acorn does neither. About a week after my call to customer service where I asked about removal, I get a letter from Jennifer ******** the Customer Service Manager that not properly servicing the chair could result in possible injury. If they do not offer an uninstall service, then they EXPECT the consumer to remove the chair themselves after the chair is broken or no longer needed. Why send this type of letter about injury if you do not offer the service to uninstall. In my opinion, they don’t care about customer injury, they only care about selling a service contract for service, otherwise they would have some option for uninstall. I priced a new motor, it costs $1500. The chair cost $1300. The service price after 1 year of use would have been over $700. None of these costs make sense. The man I talked to in Customer Service was very frustrated with me that he could not SELL me a service contract. He could have SOLD me something to have this removed. They have no suggestions or options…. Only selling a repair contract.

    We do provide removal and reinstallation services for a fee. The equipment would then be left onsite for client storage, resale, or disposal. Acorn regrets the confusion; the customer service representative that handled the call mentioned self-servicing (replacing the stairlift batteries) which necessitated the letter to be sent. Please bear in mind that Acorn Stairlifts, Inc. is a regulated medical device and all services need to be completed by authorized/trained technicians.     The Service engineer who came to my home was professional and took time to advise me of what he had to do and the time that it would take. I appreciate the prompt response. The repair took almost 6 hours but William D worked until the chair was operational and programmed.

    My personal experience with Acorn's Customer Service folks left a lot to be desired--like accurate and timely information. Installation was professional but time-consuming, and one piece of equipment was not installed during the initial installation. However, the second Acorn installation technician, Larell [out of the Elgin, Illinois area], did much to remedy the situation, and I was quite satisfied with his professionalism and politeness during the completion of the installation process. The stsirlift unit seems to work just fine and that is the most important part of the transaction.
