    I contacted Hartman to repair a improperly heating oven. They charge a $30 non-refundable service fee & $69 diagnostic fee (applied to completed repairs). The technician arrived on 4/21/21, within 15 minutes diagnosed and quoted $422.78 for repair of a cracked bake element. I asked for a breakdown of the quote and was told it was against company policy to provide a breakdown. I was also told the part was on backorder with no expected date of arrival. I found the part on Whirlpool's website for $87.93 w/standard 3 day shipping. I complained to the Office Manager about the incorrect part information and inflated quote. She determined the part was ability and requoted the repair at $306.08, stating the oven has a concealed bake element. I ordered and installed the part in 35 minutes. I am calculating Hartman's labor rate is over $400 per hour or they are over pricings jobs to make a profit on the $69.00 diagnostic fee. I would have gotten the job done had I been quoted a fair price.

    On July 3 we requested a service call from Hartman’s Appliances Repair Services, Inc. **** ****** **** ***** *** *******, FL 32808 for a Samsung refrigerator freezer not working, resulting in everything melting and thrown away. They required a credit card before they would make appointment for service call. On July 5, their technician opened the freezer, went to his truck and returned to tell us we needed a new “motherboard”. He did no testing of any of the parts I saw on internet as potential causes of the problem with no mention of a failed “motherboard” as a possible cause, though he brought some electrical type devices out when he arrived. We decided not to proceed with the repair. He then told me I could purchase the $400 motherboard and install it myself if I was handy. The next day we were emailed an invoice for a $30 service call (as expected and don't contest) and $99 for a “Premium Refrigerator Diagnostic” which we feel is unwarranted since no diagnostic effort was made. We contacted Hartman’s and were told the technician had 30 years of experience and that qualified him to know what the problem was. I explained I didn’t feel this qualified as a “Premium Refrigerator Diagnostic” when no testing of the motherboard or any other potential problem part was done. I asked what would happen if the suggested repair didn’t solve the problem and the freezer failed again. Hartman’s told me they would consider reimbursing us for the ruined products, provided we had receipts for each of the contents. Final outcome of my protest was Hartman, having our credit card in hand, would not credit us back the $99 charge. This outfit is not to be trusted.

    Your explanation of the situation is exaggerated and, in some cases, not accurate. The technician diagnosed the refrigerator and determined that since there was no frost pattern, issues with the stat valve could be ruled out. The unit was running fine with the exception of intermittent issues. Based on these findings, the technician assessed the control board is going bad. He spoke with your husband and explained this to him. Your husband explained he didn't want to put a lot of money into the unit since this was a garage refrigerator. We are a reputable company that stands behind its work and warranty. We are not perfect, everyone makes mistakes. What we are perfect at is standing behind our warranty and taking care of any issues or mistakes that arise. In your case, we are happy to refund the entire diagnostic fee if we diagnosed the appliance incorrectly. Our manager told you that if you send us a report/invoice from another appliance repair company that shows the control board wasn't the problem and there was a different issue, we will happily refund your money. Until then, we stand behind our technicians findings. We would also be happy to send out one of our other technicians to look at it and offer a second opinion. I am sorry you are unhappy with the outcome but telling people that we should not be trusted is just not true. We have stood behind our work for over 30 years and will continue to do so. I am happy to speak with you in an attempt to resolve this issue.
