I have submitted my manuscript, and even though I was wrongly guided to believe this was the government site, since they try to impersonate the original one, they did what they were supposed to do. The issue now is that I got an unauthorized charge of $24, which is not part of the already paid fee for copyrights evaluation, and I cannot get any response from them via website or through the phone. I have tried to contact in all ways possible and no response. And for what I read online, this is a subscription. And I ask, subscription of what if I was never presented an option nor was aware of it and by your own response email my case is CLOSED.

    Hi,

The customer had an option on the billing page to select NO THANKS where the Copyright Infringement Program is listed.  I have attached a print screen of this page to show that.  The $24 is the Copyright Infringement Protection monthly fee.  With this program, we used advanced technology to scan online marketplaces, social media networks, and other online channels for potential infringements of your copyrighted material monthly.  We never received any emails from the customer to cancel this program. Had we received any communication to do so from them, we would have immediately acted and stopped the program for them.  Also attached is a print screen showing we have since cancelled this program for them due to this complaint.

    Thank you

I am rejecting this response because:
Not only I sent two e-mails to the e-mail provided in the phone system, which never allows you to speak to an agent, as I also submitted two request directly in their website. That system unfortunately doesn't generate any receipt. If they didn't get any message from me is because their systems are not checked. I didn't sign for this and probably the same way they impersonate being the real Copyrights entity, they masquerade to add the subscription. On top of that, if my manuscript was rejected, why would I keep a subscription??

    Sincerely,

I'm not sure where they got that email address, but it is not our email address. Our email is ****************************************************************************************************************.  All they needed to do was respond to our emails we sent them with their confirmation they wanted to cancel the program and we would have done so.  We have since cancelled this program.

I am rejecting this response because: If you check your website, you'd see that the ONLY fields you have are the attached. Plus, I tried to contact my "agent" and NEVER got a response. Finally, if you call your own number, you'd learn the message there provides the e-mail I shared and no other.

I am glad you canceled the subscription, but I want the refund of my past month as I didn't sign for this. Not at least aware of the plan

I attempted to get a copyright for a book that I wrote I was charged $125 to my credit card but never received a copyright from them nor any kind of service. I was totally ripped off. When I went on their website I mistakenly thought that I was going on the government website but I was wrong I since did go to the government website and have obtained my copyright but I sure would like my money back since they failed to provide any service.

    Hi,

We disagree with the customer's claim against our company.  Please refer to the attached chat transcript between us and the customer regarding his payment.  Him agreeing to the charges, etc.  In addition I have attached the confirmation email sent to the customer that states how long it takes to receive their certificate:

"Processing Time for E-Filing: Most online filers should receive a certificate within six months. Many will receive their certificates earlier.  The waiting time for all applicants for the certificate is 5 months to a year. "

Our company, Copyright Registry, promptly completed the customer's order with the ******************* and had constant communication with them throughout the process.

This website and or company should be restricted from using the name of 'Copyright' because they are fully aware that people looking to get their work registered by the government copyright office will confuse their site with the 'Legit' site. I was in the process of submitting my work and when it came to the 'payment' side I knew it was wrong. I should have known immediately due to the site was too easy and with the 'legit' site it is a little more complex. I have registered work with the 'legit' ************************** site and even the use of their icon image is misleading. They are a scam site due to the cost with the actual government site being nowhere near the money you will be paying for a single work they are trying to scam people out of. And those naive and unaware of this will submit their payment to them. Scammers and thieves should not be allowed to run businesses such as this yet they are and they get to scam every day people from their hard earnings.

I searched online for the **** Copyright office. I thought the Copyright Registry was it. They weren't. When I put my credit card number in, I assumed it would take me to a cart where I could review the charges. Never did. I received an email thanking me for my order, but never an invoice of the amount charged. I was surprised when I was billed $143.95, plus the $65 copyright. I didn't realize it wasn't the right business until I called the real U.S. Copyright office, and I told there are a lot of companies doing that and preying on unsuspecting individuals because they don't charge a fee. There was no phone number in my email, so I replied and asked that they canceled my order. They refused. I should have at least 3 business days to cancel a purchase. This is bad business.

Unfortunately, this company did not include all the correspondence between us. See the attached emails.

I never got an invoice after you got my $$. I was never taken to a cart to show my total after I put in my credit card. The amount showed up on my credit card a day later.  I contacted your company and didn't get a response until I asked to cancel, which I should be able to within 3 business days.

I'm so disppointed in this company's attempt to defraud consumers. This is not a legit service.

I request you refund the $143.95.

This business has been charging me $24 monthly for six months for a copyright infringement service that I did not want.On August 4, 2023 I purchased their assistance to get a copyright registered. The order number for that request is: *************.The order page for getting assistance with a copyright registration also contains an order for this copyright infringement service. If you do not want it, you need to opt out of the service. The fact that you need to opt out and how to do it is not at all obvious and there are many other instances of complaints about this on the BBB website. I have successfully disputed one of the charges with my credit card company and it was reversed. I emailed Copyright Registry Online twice requesting a refund of $120 for five months of this unwanted charge. They have not responded to this request.

I mistakenly thought this was the government website to file a copyright. After paying an outrageous fee of $223.90 for the copyright using my **** card at *********************** in *********, I'm now being charged $24 every month. I have no idea why? I visited ***********************' website on 6/8 to file a copyright claim on music of mine. I paid the ***'s $65.00. When the **** bill arrived, there was another charge for $$173.95 from "Copyright Registry Online- **********" - And another charge from them for 7/8, 8/8, and 9/8 each for $24. I complained to my bank, who called it in to their **************** But I *never* visited the site that is charging me. I am alarmed that they have hacked into the *** site, and scalped my credit card as I filled it in. The fraud department may refund my money -- but someone has to look into how they got my information in the first place, and how they can simply take people's money for giving no services at all (they even say they provide no services in their Terms and Conditions). This is fraud pure and simple.

We completed this customers order.  Our website is for individuals or companies to register their copyrights.  We provide a service of registering our customers copyrights same day, send confirmation same day, set them up with a copyright registration number with *********************** and we make that very well known.  Our homepage states that we provide the service of copyright registration for businesses and individuals.  They came to our website to have their copyright registered and we did so.
Also included is the automatic email the customer receives as soon as they submit their application as well as the shipping slip that gets emailed to them if they do not send their files, which is stated in this automatic email. This explains the following steps to complete their registration.

The customer is claiming they did not participate, recognize or that this is a fraudulent transaction, but they agreed to our terms and conditions on our billing page where both the price is stated and we would not have their billing information and copyright registration form if they did not submit the form by clicking on the agree button on this page.  It is clear on their application that their name is on the billing information as well as the applicant on the form, therefore they agreed to the card being processed. Also attached are our terms and conditions that explain the limited money back guarantee.

They came to get a copyright and it says on their statement, our company name, Copyright Registry. It is obvious what the transaction is.

Please see attached form from customer where they chose the ********************** infringement program on the final step of the form.  Also see attached billing page where they have the customer has the option to click on no thanks if they do not want the monthly or yearly program.

    Complaint # ********

    Attn: *********************************

I am in receipt of the response which Copyright Registry has sent to me, and I need to respond fully to their claims with the understanding that I consider it to be an UNSATISFACTORY response and that they should be closely investigated for fraud, as I believe they are fraudulently taking money from people who believe that Copyright Registry is performing some kind of servicewhich patently they are not.

    1.     I never visited the webpage Copyright Registry says I did. I have looked through my browser history, and no pages from their site can be found, except on the date I found them after seeing that my credit card was repeatedly being accessed month to month. I have no idea how they got my card information.
    2.     My credit card was charged by Copyright Registry at the exact same day and time that I was on *********************** site, and registered a work of mine legally with them.
    3.     I demand to see some kind of acknowledgement that I willingly accepted Copyright Registry as performing some service for me, and that I willingly gave them my card number. I did not, and would not ever have entered copyright information on two sites at the same time. I knew which page was the correct one on *********************** website, and that is where I registered my work.
    4.     *** fee is $65.00.  On my **** statement, that fee appears, and just below it (i.e, after I paid for it on the legal *** site), there is a fee for $173.95 from Copyright Registry. It makes utterly no sense that I would seek out, and redundantly fill out the same information on another site, and pay twice as much for a service I had already bought.
    5.     Copyright Registry continued to bill my **** number $24.00 for three months afterward; had I not canceled my **** card I have no doubt they would have billed me again the next month. I
    a.      not only canceled my **** card but their fraud department is seeking a full refund from Copyright Registry.
    6.     I demand that the BBB-******* look into the business behind this Copyright Registry site, as it is patently false, and despite their statement that they provide a servicethey do NOT provide any service at all.
    a.     It is obviously a site meant to entrap people who dont know to go directly to the *** site, and pay their exorbitant feethen to be charged month after month, for NOTHING.
    b.     This is despite the fact that they say they provide a registration number or something similar which is utterly useless. I would love to know of anyone who has paid this ridiculous fee, and thought that they had purchased something of value.
    c.     No one at the *** knows what this registration number is, where you are supposed to fill that in, or what it would do, if you did. It is patently useless.
    d.     In the boilerplate response that I received from them, it is also obvious that Copyright Registry has hidden their method of cheating people who purchase whatever their registration fee is, and if you look buried in their TERMS OF SERVICE you can see that first they say plainly that they do NOT provide any service at all. I dont know whether this is legal to say that they dont provide a service, charge you for it, and get away with it or not.
    7.     I feel defrauded by this company, or shell-company, whatever they are, and truly think BBB ought to look into them, as they must have defrauded other people.
    a.     It should be simple to fill out their form and see if indeed they say what the cost is, and why they will be billing you monthly
    b.     It also should be simple to ask *********************** whether they know or care about this ridiculous registration number.

    Sincerely,

    Attn: *********************************

I still find Copyright Registrys answer to be UNSATISFACTORY. The reasons for this are:
    1.     I called *********************** and asked if the work I had copyrighted was paid for by me or Copyright Registry and they said it was paid for by me.
    2.     I asked if she could tell when Copyright Registry pays for something, and she said yes. Obviously I paid for my own copyright being registered, and would never have gone to another site to register for and pay for the same thing, especially at the price they charge
    3.     I am appending the confirmation email I received from the *** about my registration.
    4.     The woman at the *** said plainly to me about the Copyright Registryyou need to be careful about them.
    5.     It is also obvious that Copyright Registry is trying to troll users who use .com instead of .gov to get people who mistake one site for the other.
    6.     I note from a previous BBB complaint # ********
I am rejecting this response because: I never went to their website. I went to copyright.gov only.
             a.     Note this is the same complaint that I have. I never went to their website.
             b.     BBBplease see that something is wrong here, and that Copyright Registry is fraudulent
    7.     Note that in Complaint: ********, they have done nothing but take my money. Exactly my complaint.
    8.     Many complaints at the BBB say the same things. (********************************************************************************************************************************************************)
    9.     The idea that they will keep charging a user $24 until they cancel is ridiculous. Cancel what? Their claim that they are doing something for the user is utterly fraudulent, suborned by their hidden Terms and Conditions
    10.  IF they had indeed completed somehowa submission to the *** copyright, why didnt they send me an email that said so?
           a.     I would like to see a copy of any email that claimed what they did
           b.     I would like to see a copy of what I supposedly filled out on their site
    11.  BBBplease go into their site and see what happens when you try to copyright something, and how much of what they say is above-board is obviously NOT.
    12.  I do not care about their refund policyI demand a full refund, as I received nothing, did not order anything, and nothing was sent to ***********************. They have simply taken my money and planned on charging me a ridiculous monthly fee for the sake of bilking the user.

We disagree with the card holder's claim for this case.  In the attached, you can see the email we sent to the customer stating that their filing fee declined and that we needed payment to complete the registration.  There should be no refund, see below.

As stated in our terms and conditions:
Please note:  According to our terms and conditions, once Copyright Registry Online has emailed the customer ********************** registration case number/service request number (which is noted above), services are considered rendered.  When the filing fee declines we email the customer their service request number. This translates to we have already completed creating their copyright account so therefore, the service fee is non-refundable.  If they choose to not respond with payment for the filing fee, the service fee is still non-refundable as the Copyright Registry Online has already set up the account for the customer

Service fees are non refundable once we create their case.  By creating this case we are already providing a good deal of services to the customer which is why there is no refund to that.

On 8/1/23, I did a ****** search for ***********************. The website was called **********************************. The fee should have been $85 to copyright my work. I got charged the $85 plus $223.90 with no explanation. When I contacted the office through the same email listed on that site, they said I must have gone through a third party. I didn't go through a third party (that I knew of at the time), and there was no warning of this$223.90 fee when I paid. They just took the money out of my bank account.

Attahced is a screenshot of an email from the customer and to our company with their work attached.  To say they dont recognize the charges when they clearly emailed our company, with the company name in the email address, is proof they are trying to get our service for free.   You can see their email address in the from line.

We completed this customers order.  Our website is for individuals or companies to register their copyrights.  We provide a service of registering our customers copyrights and set them up with a copyright registration number with *********************** and we make that very well known.  They came to our website to have their copyright registered and we did so.  They are claiming they did not know the charges, but on step 5 of our form on our website it clearly states the price.  It is also where they agreed to our terms and conditions on our billing page where both the price is stated and we would not have their billing information and copyright registration form if they did not submit the form by clicking on the agree button on this page.Their name is on the billing information as well as the applicant on the form, therefore they agreed to the card being processed.

We state on our homepage that we are a private company not affiliated with ***********************. We also state that copyright registration is available through the government office at a lower cost.  Our company provides a service of registering our customers copyrights, which is what we provided for them.

    Thank you,

    Copyright Registry

I am rejecting this response because: I never went to their website. I went to copyright.gov only. Also, I never saw a $223.90 fee on the payment page, and I never authorized it. It just turned up on my bank statement. I have no idea what the $223.90 is even for. I only authorized the $85 that went to *********************** Copyright office.

    Sincerely,
