I hired Elite Window Tinting in Navarre, Florida to tint two of my vehicles. One of the tint jobs had major issues — including shifting film and a moth trapped between the tint and the windshield glass. The owner acknowledged the flaws and promised to fix them under the lifetime warranty he advertised.

However, after multiple broken promises to come back and fix the issue, he eventually stopped responding to calls and texts. I had to follow up several times just to get a reply, and even then, no appointment was kept.

After I posted a public review describing my experience, the owner called me immediately, admitted fault, and promised a refund if I removed the review. I agreed in good faith — but he once again disappeared and never issued the refund.

This is not how a legitimate business should operate. I’m requesting that Elite Window Tinting either fix the defective tint job as promised under warranty or issue a full refund for the flawed service.

We're writing to address the complaint from Boris ****** and explain Elite Window Tinting's view of the situation.

We acknowledge providing tinting services for Mr. ******. He later raised a concern about a moth found within the film on one of his vehicles. It's important to clarify the circumstances around that specific installation.
We told Mr. ****** multiple times that doing the tinting so late at night wasn't a good idea. We explained that working in reduced light significantly increases the risk of imperfections and environmental contaminants, like insects, getting trapped in the film. This makes it difficult to achieve our usual high standards. We suggested waiting for a daylight appointment for the best possible outcome. However, Mr. ****** insisted we complete the job that evening, and we agreed to proceed under those clearly communicated conditions.
A few days later, Mr. ****** told us about the moth. At that point, consistent with our earlier conversation about the risks of a late-night installation, I told him I would do my best to carefully remove the moth. However, because the issue directly stemmed from the conditions he insisted upon, we would not replace the entire tint at no charge.
Subsequently, Mr. ****** threatened to post negative reviews and file a BBB complaint if we didn't immediately replace his tint. Given these threats and his prior insistence on the challenging installation conditions, we felt it was necessary to submit a complaint to Google, including all proof and conversations from our recorded shop line, to document the sequence of events.
At Elite Window Tinting, we pride ourselves on quality work and transparency. We always give professional recommendations to achieve the best results. We believe this situation escalated because Mr. ******'s demands overrode his understanding of the risks involved with the evening installation.
We remain committed to fair business practices and can provide the documented communications if needed.

      Complaint: 23636242

I am rejecting this response because:

I appreciate the opportunity to respond to the business’s statement. However, several key claims made by the owner are factually inaccurate and misrepresent the timeline, the events, and the nature of our interactions.

      1. The Work Did Not Begin at Night
The installation began in daylight, not “late at night” as claimed. It was still bright outside when the technician arrived and started working. It only became dark toward the end of the job. At no point did I insist that the work be done “late at night” against their recommendation, nor was I warned that evening installation could cause defects. If such a risk had been mentioned, I would have gladly rescheduled.

      2. No Warning Was Given About Night Work Risks
The business claims they “told me multiple times” about the risks of tinting at night. This is completely false. No such warnings were given to me before or during the appointment. In fact, I asked whether it was safe to apply tint over the existing film, and the technician confidently assured me that not only was it safe, but it would enhance sun protection. This contradicts the shop’s current claim that I was fully informed and overrode their guidance.

      3. Technician Acknowledged the Issues Were Their Fault
When the technician later returned to do the windshield, I pointed out the clear shifting and gapping in the tint. He looked at it and acknowledged that the issue was likely due to applying tint over existing film. He told me directly that he would return to fix it. At that point, there was no argument about responsibility or refusal to correct the problem.
The moth trapped inside the windshield tint was also not a small flaw — it was clearly visible and unacceptable. Again, the technician assured me that they would re-do the job.

      4. Only After Posting Reviews Did I Get a Response
After multiple unanswered calls and texts over the course of several days, I left a public review on Google and Facebook, detailing my experience. Only then did the business respond — almost immediately — and promised to make things right. The owner then called and pressured me to delete my review, offering to fix the issue the following week. I declined to remove my review until the work was actually corrected.

      5. Refund Offer Was Made and Then Delayed
The owner later called again, offering a refund instead of doing the work. I accepted this offer in good faith. As of the time of this writing, I have not received the refund.
      Summary:
This is not a matter of a customer overriding professional advice. I was not warned, I relied on the technician’s expertise, and I was repeatedly assured that the work would be corrected. The business then went silent, only responding after public pressure, and is now rewriting the timeline to deflect blame.
I stand by my original complaint and am requesting a full refund for the service that was poorly executed and never corrected despite multiple promises.

      Sincerely,

      Boris ******
