My Mom banked with BankUnited while she lived in south *******. When she moved to North ********* she asked BankUnited to close her account and to send the balance in a check to her new home. BankUnited refused to do this citing some nonsense "policy" about not being able to send money to a new account address for at least 45 days after the address change. Next my Mom wrote a check to herself for the balance in her account for deposit into her new checking account (not with BankUnited). The receiving bank verified my Mom's ID and accepted the check for deposit. About a week later, BankUnited refused to honor the valid check and returned the check unpaid. We filed a complaint at the US ******************** Later we received a nonsense UnitedBank letter denying they had done anything wrong.Prior to this last straw of horrendous customer service, ********************** had refused to reimburse my Mom for fraudulent checks written against her account. Someone stole 3 checks and wrote checks in her name to themselves. Because my Mom refused to file charges against the thief (he was caught at a check cashing place), BankUnited refused to reimburse my Mom's account for the sum of $300. Disgraceful!
