Mike Farris was contracted to replace our roof as part of our selling of the home. We were quoted a price of $27,100 and we were specific to ask if the price would change after removal and replacement of the roof. We were assured the cost would not change. Removal of the roof began on 5/1/2023 and proceeded to occur thru Saturday, 5/6/2023 when it was completed. We were not told anything about price changes during this week. We signed closing documents on Monday, 5/8/23 with Mike Farris being paid $27,100. Three days later on 5/11 after we signed our closing documents and agreed upon amount our realtor was notified of a price adjustment. No one notified us as the customer who is paying the cost. On 5/12/23, we received a message through the closing portal that the price had changed to $28,913 and we needed to sign the updated documents so funds could be wired to us from our sale. We essentially had to sign our we don't get our funds from selling out home. The closing agent could not make contact with the realtor, no one informed of this change. Changing the amount almost 1 week later is inappropriate and as a customer we would have had to approve those cost if we were remaining in the home and the same should apply even though the cost was coming out of the closing proceeds. We feel that the business should be claiming this lost and it should not be placed back onto us as the contractor had the burden to notify us, the customer. Notification was not made. The contractor had time to make notification and in failing to do so should not be passing on the additional $1,816 to us. We would like to be reimbursed for the amount that we did not approve as part of the original contract. The amount on the permit does not match the amount we were charged after the fact. The business as a responsibility to be transparent in their actions and the business was not.
