I signed a contract and made a down payment of $8,495 to Roof Doctors, LLC from ************, ** on February 4, 2023. The contract includes replacing damaged siding, rebuilding a second story composite deck from the plywood subfloor up, and replacing a screened enclosure that includes a heavy load aluminum roof. The contract states work will begin "3-4 weeks after permits are pulled" so I waited 2 months before inquiring about the status of permits. After getting the run around from the project manager and his supervisor, I eventually spoke to ***************************** in the ****************** office on May 10, 2023. *** informed me that I would need to work with ******************************* in the west coast office, but *** would not give me ****' contact information. Instead, he forwarded my contact information to ****. I waited patiently for 5 days to hear from **** before leaving a phone message that I was ready to report Roof Doctors as a fraudulent contractor if I didn't hear from someone in 48 hours. **** called and told me he was sending ******************* out to handle the work on my home. **** told me that **** is a licensed general contractor, but I can't find him in the state contractor license look-up portal. According to ****** card, he doesn't even work for Roof Doctors, but works for ********************** (SLR), a company based in ******** with an office in **********, **. SLR has a roofing license in **********************, but not a general contracting license. Due to the work needed on my house, I hired a GENERAL contractor, not a roofing contractor. It's been 8 months. I have a friend that works for the Charlotte ***************** with access to permit applications and there is no record of any application for permits submitted for review for my home. For 8 months, Roof Doctors has had my money, has not applied for permits, and can't give me any realistic estimate when work might begin. At this point, if they can't do the job or don't want the job, I just want my money back.
