In February 2024 BBB investigated Frontier Legal Group's business practices. This investigation was prompted by Scam Tracker reports and consumer inquires.
Specifically, consumers allege they receive a letter in the mail threatening legal action for a debt they claim to not have. This letter has missing vital information and lists incorrect or outdated information. In February 2024, a consumer reported to BBB that the letter received is titled "Notification of Lawsuit & Civil Complaint" with the consumers name listed as the respondent. "It claims I had a loan, and they are reviewing my account for immediate legal action (filing a lawsuit) of which would result in a civil court judgment," said the consumer. Frontier Legal group declares if the consumer does not make a payment by the due date provided then a sheriff will serve a summons to appear in court.
This approach of debt collection causes concern as it deceives consumers. It misrepresents itself as a legal document but is being used to frighten individuals who may not be familiar with or understand legal court paperwork.
