    I bought a headstone for my son and within days after installation the etching has a malfunction/ distortion. I tried emailing and calling but was basically told it was like that from the beginning. Which it was not. I was brushed off.

    Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. I am sorry for the problem this has caused you.  I have made inquiries with a third-party monument company that does laser etching and the vendor that did the laser etching on your monument. I sent your picture and many other pictures of the monument to both vendors and asked them what they thought was the cause of the apparent smudge below ******** left eye. Both vendors suggested cleaning the stone with water and Dawn dish soap. **** examined the monument in person on Feb. 14 2024. On Feb. 21, 2024 we cleaned the stone with water and Dawn dish soap. We could not see any change after cleaning, waiting an hour for drying, and further examination. Based on the original image used, the image sent by the laser etching vendor, and seeing the monument in person multiple times, we have determined that the laser etching has not changed. 
    Regarding the apparent smudge or pixilation issue, I think a significantly higher resolution image should have been used. Lower resolution images are unable to produce smooth gradient transitions between light and shadow, potentially resulting in a more pronounced shadow under the left eye than would have been the case with a higher resolution image. We also noticed there is quite a difference between what is seen in person and what can be captured by cell phone cameras.
