Contract signed 9/16/22, when signed we paid $700 for permits. On 9/19 United Roofing (******) informed us that all was in order with filing the permit, but 3 days later asked for a signed notarized form which is required for permit application. It was signed and returned immediately. On 9/23, ****** informed us the permit could come back in the next day and he needed $5,000 to purchase materials so that he could potentially do the work before the arrival of Hurricane ****. The money was sent electronically. Materials were never ordered. On 10/4 ****** informed us that the permit could not be issued unless we got hurricane straps installed (he's a roofer but didn't know this?). Straps installation was completed and necessary paperwork sent to United Roofing on 10/24 by the contractor who installed the straps. On Nov. 3 ****** claimed that the permit was being expedited and would be issued by next week. A call to *************** Office on Nov 3 confirmed no permit application was pending. They also confirmed that United Roofing is working under another companies lic #, Tropical Roofing CCC1333743 ***********************. After confronting ****** with this information, he sent another permit application to us on Nov 4 to be signed and notarized. The forms were returned to him the next business day (Nov 7). The permit application was finally made a full week later (the house had been taking water damage throughout this entire process). However, by this time I asked for a refund. ****** responded by saying he would not do the work without being paid the full amount up front and if I didn't pay, I would not get any money returned.
