I have never been to North Broward Radiologists. I was at Broward Health ************** on May 3rd. While at the hospital, I had a scan, in the hospital. The *** Scan/Body Scan", as well as "Radiology/Diagnostic/Chest" shows up under the hospital claim, but the *** ABD & PELV w/ Contrast" was submitted under a separate claim, despite being part of the same facility, same room, same hospital visit. I spoke to Florida Blue, which told me there is nothing stopping them from filing the charge under the same claim that they filed the other 2 "services", so either this is a billing mistake, or they are intentionally avoiding billing Florida Blue, hoping to get more money from me.Furthermore, they have not sent me a bill. I'm not sure what address they have on file, but Broward Health was given my correct address. I found out about this "money owed", because they called me. The automated call, sounded like a typical fraud/scam call, so at first, I assumed it must be a scammer. When I contacted them, and voiced my concern that this seems suspicious, they refused to do anything to prove they were legit, so I had to hang up, and look up the company to verify the number was legit. Afterward, I couldn't call back, because they closed. This is a separate complaint from Broward Health, because this is a separate company making a claim, so this is not a duplicate complaint.

Thanks for the opportunity to respond.  So the patient went to Broward Health ************** and had ** scan done.  North Broward Radiologists is the *************** that covers that hospital as well as the other Broward Health hospitals to provide the Radiology Physician Services.  We are not employees of the hospital which is why we bill separately for the interpretation of the ** this patient had done.  The charge from the hospital was just for the actual scan not the actual physician that reads and issues a report on the study.  He wouldn't see our physician because we read and communicate the exam results to the physician that ordered the test.  That physician would communicate the results to the patient.  We billed BCBS and the patient balance is related to the deductible and is owed to the physician group.  I reviewed the Explanation of Benefits we received from BCBS showing the amount is related to the deductible. I will have someone from my billing office call and explain this as well.  If that patient has any additional questions they can reach out to me and the number and email below.

    Thanks

I am rejecting this response because:

I spoke with a supervisor of Florida Blue about this service. They informed me that North Broward Radiologists were able to resubmit their claim under the same claim as the hospital visit and get paid that way.
Florida Blue indicated that NBR's decision to file a separate claim is their choice, not a requirement. If they file under the same claim the ***scan and other radiology service was filed, I would not owe any money.
Given that this is Florida Blue's official position, I suspect the choice to file a separate claim is an attempt to collect a higher amount of money, than perhaps Florida Blue is willing to pay.
I'd be happy to do a three-way call with Florida Blue & North Broward Radiologists to come to a mutually beneficial agreement.
NBR must also remember that Broward Health Imperial Point has made clerical issues, such as forgetting to put my apartment number in the address, so my first contact with NBR was a robocall that sounded like a scam call, on August 2nd.
Given the absolute horrific experience I had with Broward Health Imperial Point, plus this billing dispute I've raised with NBR, I would like to make it clear that I have filed a complaint with the ********** of *********** regarding this matter.

    Sincerely,

Let me try to explain the process.  You were treated at ************** by your own admission and had a CT done I assume because of a health related matter.  The physician that reviewed and read that CT was Dr. *********************** who is one of our radiologists.  The claims filed by the hospital was filed as technical only not global and did not include a charge for **************** read and report.  They do not bill globally inclusive of the professional side because the doctors bill separately.  If they billed globally you simply would have had a larger bill from the hospital and owed a larger amount.  Regardless they couldn't legally bill globally since our physicians aren't employed by them that would be fraud.  As a separate physician group contracted to provide ********* services at the Broward Health locations we have to bill separetely for the professionally side and do for every patient we treat at the hospital.  I had an employee of our billing company reach out and call you to communicate the information and what the amount was owed for.  They said they spoke to you and you simply weren't happy which I really don't understand.    Our radiologist provided part of your care so of course we expect to be paid.  The automated call for the amount is our first attempt to get paid.  We do that and text because it is the preferred method of payment for most patients.  I will make sure the billing company mails out a paper invoice thought if that is what you prefer.  I want to make sure it is clear this is a separate bill from the hospital.  Our charge wasn't not included with the hospital bill to BCBS.  If our bill wasn't correct BCBS wouldn't have processed it and let us know the balance after insurance was due to a deductible.  You should have access this under your BCBS account and see it under the ***s.  A supervisor with BCBS shouldn't have told you that it could be included because that is simply wrong and would vary by hospital and physicians depending on their contract and employment status.  Under our hospital contract we are required to bill like this.  We aren't paid by the hospital so without billing for patients directly we wouldn't get paid for the services we provide.  I am happy to email you a copy of the *** we received from BCBS if you would prefer versus trying to find it yourself.  When you go to a hospital most of the doctors you see or are involved your care aren't not employed by the hospital and they will be individually.  This goes for Anesthesia, ER, etc in most cases.

I am rejecting this response because,

I would like to see that documentation mentioned first "EOB we received from BCBS".
I will speak with Florida Blue once again today, to investigate why the Supervisor made those statements.
If they made an error and you are correct, I will confirm that by speaking with someone else about it, and pay the bill.

As far as not understanding why this situation is an issue, that would be because you are not the patient.
Try putting yourself in the shoes of someone who does not work in your industry, has insurance that is supposed to cover these things, but then has surprise charges that don't seem consistent, screws up your billing address so you find out months later, and your insurance tells you manner of billing chosen is optional. This may be frustrating for you, but I can assure you, this has been a lot more frustrating for me. I'm happy to pay the bill, if what you say is correct, so allow me to review your documentation, and make another call to Florida Blue today, and we can conclude this.

    Sincerely,

I was seen in the **** at broward health june 10 -12 2023. Sunshine health ******** paid it, I spoke to Sunshine health and was told they paid for the visits. They were paid june 2023, why were claims filed after they were paid. I spoke with broward radiologist to give them the claim numbers provided to me by sunshine health and they refused to take the claim numbers to look into my bill being paid already. They put me in collections for a bill that has already been paid.

Sorry for the late response but I have been out of the country since May 29 and this is my first day back.  I just reviewed our billing system and we have no history of treating a patient by the name of ***********************.  If that is the patients correct name then I suspect they may have indeed been the victim of a scam.  This has no relationship to North Broward Radiologists who do cover the Broward Health Hospitals.  Please remove this from our history.

    Thanks

I guess I wonder what services they use for collection as I am getting collection letters an emails so would like to see if they are the same ones ****** uses.    Or do I need to find bbb for them an file complaint about them

This patient isn't listed in our billing system as being treated by a physician of North Broward Radiologists.  If they have never received treatment at a Broward *************** then they definitely didn't have anything done by our doctors.  If they did have treatment at one of the hospital locations they wouldn't necessarily see our doctor or know them.  We read Xrays, CT, MRI, etc which doesn't require our Radiologists to actually see the patient.  Regardless the patient isn't listed in our system which also means they couldn't have been sent to collections by our group.  We would still have the patient information in our system.  If the patient would like to speak with me directly she can call me at ************ or email me at *****************.

    Thanks

I reviewed the account for this patient and it appears they were sent to collections as a result of not paying for medical services provided by our radiology group.  No health insurance was provided to the group from the hospital.  I am happy though to have the account written off and removed from collections.  If they have any further questions they can contact *********************** at ***************** or ************.

I was never sent a bill from them. Called to find out why and they said there was a glitch in the system and it was immediately sent to collections. They said they would pull it back from the collection agency due to a lack of billing and I should get a bill in the mail. My insurance was billed but I would still have a small balance. The bill I received shows $0 which was incorrect so I called again and was told that it was submitted incorrectly and they would fix it. I have made 7 additional calls over the last few months to resolve the issue and they just keep saying someone did something wrong and they will fix it but to check back in a few weeks because the process takes time. Multiple supervisors have escalated the issue and nothing changes. I have never received anything from the collection agency, I am just trying to pay my bill to North Broward Radiologists but they have never been able to bill me for the correct amount.

I apologize for not responding sooner but this is the first time I have heard of a complaint.  We utilize a third party billing company and in this case it looks like they have really let down the patient.  I am going to contact them and make sure they pull this patient out of collections and write off any balance owed.  Even if the patient owed a balance after insurance they should not have to work this hard in order for the bill to be processed correctly.  Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions.

    Complaint: 18609323

I followed up again on 12/21/22 and spoke with ****. She told me that I had no options but to pay the collection agency. They were apparently tired of hearing from me but didnt know how to actually resolve the issue. I couldnt reach anyone at the collection agency that day so I tried again on the 27th and was able to pay the $62.88. They also said they had no record of the bill being pulled back from collections or communication from North Broward that it was supposed to be. I was basically out of energy in dealing with this issue for the last 6 months and trying to give the billing department the benefit of the doubt. I called today and was told that now it finally has been pulled back but that it doesnt show I paid anything to the collection agency. Maybe because North Broward doesnt expect payment now, which is fine. I am asking for a formal letter stating that I do not have a balance owed to North Broward Radiologists, or a collection owed to **********************. I am asking for this because I have received a bill in the past that shows $0 but wasnt actually true and I would like to avoid any other glitches that *** take place if the collection was pulled back after I already paid it. My address is on file. Thanks!
    Sincerely,

After speaking with our billing company the balance paid by the patient related to a deductible balance of $62.88.  It seems they had bad billing information originally but was able to bill her insurance Aetna after she contacted them and provided the information.  We understand the patient's frustration with the number of calls she made and I have instructed our billing company to issue a refund of the balance she paid.  We strive to ensure we provide the best patient care possible and never like to see issues come up with the billing side of it.  Should the patient have any questions or concerns she can contact me directly.
