Completely unacceptable. I booked with Hertz three separate times under the promise that I could skip the line, yet each time this “feature” turned out to be false advertising. On my most recent booking, Hertz didn’t even have a car available despite my confirmed reservation. Their skip-the-line service simply does not work. Save yourself the frustration—do not book with Hertz.

THE MOST FRAUDULENT CAR RENTAL BUSINESS-STAY AWAY FRAUDULENT TRANSACTIONS DIRECTLY WITH THEIR RESERVATION SPECIALIST. OFFERING SPECIALIST, HOWEVE,R WITH AN AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD PAYMENT, JUST SO THEY CAN STELL YOUR INFORMATION. BE VARY CAREFUL WHEN DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY

Terrible experience with HERTZ! My reservation was made for 6am pickup time. I arrived early and found the hertz counter empty with no staff. Called customer support and they told me that the counter doesn't open until 8am not sure why they would allow a reservation time to be set 2 hours prior to opening? (National and Alamo were fully staffed at this time and I took my business to them!) will never use hertz again and I advise others to stay away from them as well

Booked a prepaid car weeks in advance. Reservation was cancelled 4 hours before pick-up without notification or reason. Customer service assured me I would receive a full refund. I was then only refunded $33.88 of the $135 I originally paid in full. Customer service assured me that the rest of the refund was being processed. Called 10 days later and was told I was penalized $100 for cancelling. When I told them I was not the one who cancelled, they said "Oh, then we will refund you." Come to find out, the original two customer service agents lied about the rest of the refund, probably hoping I would not notice. Now they say the refund is on the way..... Hoping it comes through. But mentally, I am prepared to take this up with my credit card company next week if it does not show up.

We rented a vehicle for a personal trip and were pulled over by state police within the first 12 hours because the vehicle was illegal; no registration or inspection. We were given a 2025 KIA Soul but the license plate was for an older Chevy Malibu. We then weren’t allowed to drive it since it was illegal and had to exchange it for a different vehicle/one that was legal. This in total cost us 5 hours of our time. The original location was contacted and said it wasn’t their problem and everything was right on their end, even after they were informed what the state trooper relayed. They refused to let us speak to a manager and said they couldn’t do anything. Then, after returning the exchanged car (after hour drop off), it was nearly impossible to speak to someone over the phone. After an hour waiting for someone to pick the phone up, I could only ask one question, then the worker hung up on me. As someone who rents vehicles frequently for work, I have never had such a horrible experience with a rental company and will never use Hertz again.

I rented a car for personal use from this location and received a vehicle that had pre-existing chips in the front windshield. The chips were relatively unremarkable, except I had hoped they wouldn’t crack in the summer temps. They did crack in the heat. I commented on the crack and its causes at drop-off, and the Area Manager acknowledged it and closed the contract. But, he contacted me later by email, having changed his mind, asking how I wanted to pay for the “damages.” He failed to reply to my follow-up emails and, without my knowledge, forwarded a “damage incident claim” to an outside company. I began contacting various Hertz representatives, asking why a windshield replacement under the conditions I experienced wouldn’t be considered routine maintenance for Hertz. I never received an answer to that question. I was simply asked if I had taken photos of the pre-existing chips. Unfortunately, I had not. Instead, I was sent “before” pictures taken by their staff and told they prove the windshield did not have any chips. The pictures, which were dated and time stamped, were not close or clear enough to warrant such a claim and were taken about 8 hours before I took possession of the vehicle at a different location from where I picked it up (this was clearly evident in the background due to the wide camera angle). Importantly, the Hertz “Notice of First Loss” department said they could not help resolve my concern because this location is not corporate-owned. It’s an independent franchise that operates under the Hertz brand name, which is not readily apparent to prospective customers. I recently received an invoice for the claim, totaling $649.50 ($447.00 for the “physical damage,” $52.50 for 2 days loss of use, and $150 for an administrative fee). I'll let readers determine if this is the type of treatment they want to risk experiencing or believe any customer deserves. Sadly, I've noticed this experience is not uncommon as evident in numerous online reviews.

Avoid renting from Hertz. They’ve recently implemented a new “damage detection” system using automated cameras, and it’s an absolute nightmare. After returning my vehicle in perfect condition, I was blindsided by a damage claim days later — backed only by blurry, low-quality photos taken by cameras in terrible lighting. There was no walk-around inspection, no employee present, and no chance to confirm the car's condition at drop-off. It feels like a scam designed to pin false damage on customers using flawed tech. To make matters worse, it took me nearly TWO MONTHS just to reach a human being in their claims department in Oklahoma City. Endless calls, emails, and zero accountability. The whole process is clearly built to frustrate people into giving up. I’ve rented from Hertz many times in the past, but this experience has destroyed my trust. Between the unreliable cameras, lack of transparency, and the black hole that is their claims department, this company has become a liability for anyone who rents. ?? Do yourself a favor — rent from literally anyone else. Until Hertz scraps this broken system and treats customers fairly, they are absolutely not worth the risk.

I was walking thru their rent to own program and was very transparent on that I was preapproved by 3 credit unions for the purchase of a vehicle. Upon RETURNING the truck at the end of 3-days this location tells me where they CAN take credit unions, they choose not to. This is AFTER 2 hours waiting for my scheduled appt, then told they could fit me in. Financial team Service HORRIBLE. I then was charged for the $774 rental. I guess this is how they make their money.

After a 3 hour wait in Pensacola fl, they give us a Kia EV car, force us to pay 244.00 for insurance after my insurance company said we were fully covered. The ev leaked all over me when it rained. There were no electric charge stations so we spent an extra 5 hours driving around to get charged all while getting soaked from the rain. Called customer support he was from India and told us to turn around and drive an hour and a half back to Birmingham for a charge. We had to find a cop who helped us find a place to charge. 15 hrs later, I’m soaked, we are exhausted finally get in after 1:30am. Now in Knoxville wait 30 more minutes to find out this hertz is not related to the one in Florida. Overcharged, lied to, now spending one of 2 of our vacation days in this airport fixing a bad rental agreement.
