If you are in ************* and need an emergency vet, stay far away from this money hungry inconsiderate h*** hole. My dog ingested some drugs and I brought here here and it is the worst mistake I have made in my life! Before they treated her they were more worried about me signing an outrageous estimate for treatment which of course I did. Treatment including drugs and exam was in excess of $1300 and they told me it was best to take her to UF Pet in *****. I took her there and she was immediately taken back to a doctor and treatment was started before I was even approached with an estimate. The estimate I was given ranged from $1500-2500 depending on the length of stay and types of treatment. She stayed overnight and when I called in the morning she was stable and ready for discharge. After everything my bill was reduced to a bit over $600 for everything including overnight nurse care. The people at UF Pet are compassionate, decent and most of all honest. None of the above can be said for Urgent Pet Vets. They should be closed and investigated for fraud! The review requires a star even though they do not deserve one.

I’m new to the area I had an emergency with my cat I went to the nearest animal hospital and boy did I regret that. The place is absolutely disgusting to start. Trash overflowing a used thermometer on the counter! My cat was diagnosed with pneumonia. Sent home with an antibiotic was not improving so I took him up to the university of Florida the very next day where they redid everything that urgent vet did, and the vet couldn’t believe what urgent pets charged me for the exact same things! Price gouging is an understatement a cerenia injection was $122.45 at urgent pets the exact same injection was $7 at UF, keep in mind these are Florida’s best! X-rays at urgent pet $783 x-rays at UF $225
I was at urgent vet for less than an hour. My total was $1300.09.
My cat was hospitalized at UF for most of the night Unfortunately, he was not responding to treatment and stopped breathing even with his cremation & the hospitalization. My total was $1248.40. The Following week I talked with my regular vet (Who highly suggested I never go back) this is a husband and wife owned office clearly no compassion money Grubin jerks! This place has already been reported multiple times to the better BB I will be calling again. Please do not take your beloved pet here make the trip to Ocala. Even with a terrible outcome, the compassion and sincerity that the employees at UF showed me were remarkable. If I did not go to another urgent vet, I would’ve not known any different on being taking advantage of the first time.

NEVER take or trust your animals to urgent pet vet in Crystal River. They will lie to you about what’s wrong with your pet, send you home with medications they do not need to take, and gladly charge you hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a vet bill. The vet is a complete joke and has no bedside manner at all. The receptionist will forge the report (right in front of you) to cover up for the vet also.

Long story not so short, we took our dog cinnamon there Sunday because she was having a bloody stool and diarrhea for 3 days. We were in and out within an hour and charged $900 and was told she had Giardia and that it would take 2weeks-a month to go away. We brought her to her normal vet(who are awesome and trust) Wednesday and they tested her and was told she never had Giardia, and she was negative for it. They’ve had many cases of animals coming to them that were negative after being told they were positive by urgent pet vet as well. So we go back to the animal hospital where we brought her originally to explain the situation and ask what test they did, and to get proof from a report that she had it. The receptionist pulled up our account and added in herself that she tested positive when it was never on her chart/report) the vet was extremely rude and defensive constantly saying “I don’t know what you want me to do” and stormed out of the room.

Very unprofessional and extremely upset with the fact they charged us so much all while lying to us and putting our furbaby on 4 different medications she did not need to be on.

I went there for an emergency with my senior bulldog. i waited in a room for over an hour while my dog was suffering /vomiting and he collapsed and aspirated. I ran out to a ask for help, and a few minutes later a vet opens the door and begins asking a few questions. She did not touch my dog and never left the doorway. After about one minute she left. Then the receptionist came in with an estimate of almost $1400, including a $679 charge for xrays. I said can't we have an exam first? I was told I could not be present during the exam because they needed a "controlled environment." What kind of bullsh*t is this? I am here with my dog in distress and you have not even taken his temp! At this point I would not even want them to touch my dog. I said I am going to another vet, you people obviously do not care about animals. It's all about the money. So I tried to leave and was told I had to pay $65 for an "office visit." I said, no thank you. Then they threatened to call the police and I said go ahead. I would NEVER ever return to this place. It's a wonder that no one has sued them yet after reading the many bad reviews.

I would like to begin by stating that the staff at Urgent Vet in Crystal River were nothing but compassionate and my problem is not with them. I had a 15-year-old cat that rapidly went into liver failure over the Christmas weekend. I was hoping he could make it until Monday when I could call them but by Sunday, it was obvious it couldn't wait. They put me in an exam room and took my cat back to have the IV put in. While they were doing that, the receptionist came to see if I wanted to pay... It was $490. A family member had sent $200 to help with the cost and I was fortunate I had enough on Care Credit for the rest. The exam fee was $65 - very low for an emergency vet. I would have gladly paid more, especially since it was Christmas Day. The prices for the euthanasia itself and the cremation were highly overpriced. The fee for euthanasia was $264 and communal cremation was $114. I didn't really have a choice - it wasn't like I could take him back home with me. I called another nearby emergency vet this week to see if what they charged was similar. Their office visit was $135 (which I expected to be high,) euthanasia was $177 and cremation was $30. If I had gone there, it would have been over $100 less than what I paid at Urgent Vet. I feel like I was taken advantage of at a very vulnerable time when I was out of my mind with a cat that was suffering so much that I had to euthanize him. I expected it to be expensive and I wasn't asking for a hand out, but I expected more reasonable prices for the actual services and I expected it to be less expensive.

This is why we give owners an estimate, that way you know in advance the cost of care. Nothing is a surprise and owners are aware. Owners have every right to decline treatment.
The cost of running an emergency veterinary clinic is not cheap. We are an emergency clinic, not a low cost clinic. The prices elsewhere have nothing to do with us and the care/treatments/diagnostics that we do here. We cannot speak to how another business runs. Our costs are what they are and leaving bad reviews everywhere will not change this. I am not sure your reasoning for leaving this, because we provided the necessary treatment for your dying cat. We are sorry for your loss.

Except I was NOT given an estimate. I was shown into a room and they took my cat in the back to have the IV placed. Someone then came in to have me sign the cremation - euthanasia form. She said it was $114. I specifically asked if the $114 included the euthanasia and she said YES.

Then someone came in to say it was $264. You already had my cat! If I had asked for him back, I would have STILL been charged for the office visit and IV placement, which would have been over $100.00 and then the cost of having him euthanized elsewhere.

Believe me, if I had my cat with me, I would have declined.

I have taken animals two or three other times and don't recall getting estimates then either. To state that you give estimates is just not true.

Maybe have the client sign an estimate form BEFORE rendering any treatment for the animal? ESPECIALLY when it is someone having to put their animal down.

I wouldn't call you an "emergency vet." You open later and close later and are open on weekends, but you are still open five days a week. There are many people who consider you their regular vet.

An emergency vet is generally open 5:00 - 8:00 am, Monday - Friday and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday. They don't have regular clients, they take emergencies only, and the animals treated are either sent home with the owner or sent to their regular vet in the morning.

"Operating costs" is not a justification for blatantly overcharging people in one of the poorest counties in Florida. And yes, that is a valid reason to complain.
