Crane Tech is a Crane School located in REMOVEDwhich prepares students to test for their crane certification. REMOVED(REMOVEDfor the Certification of Crane Operators) is a nationally recognized organization which tests and grants crane certifications to students who pass their tests. I was signed up for a week long class starting April 20th, 2025. I paid $2,395. I was unable to attend as I was called to work as an emergency. Therefore, I demanded a refund. I received no goods or services from Crane REMOVED, yet they are holding $2,395 from me. Crane Tech has refused to refund my money. They offered to hold the funds for up to 1 year if I wish to take another course. I wish to receive my refund, as I was unable to be present for the service I paid for. They explained that they are missing the funds sent to REMOVEDfor my tests. I gave them $2395> Crane tech sent $290 for REMOVEDtests>NCCCO refunded $290 to Crane Tech for the tests>Crane Tech still refuses to refund me/Discover.I was registered inside of their 10-day cancellation policy. I was notified of the policy after completing the required paperwork. Per their policy, applicants are able to receive a full refund if their employer sends a letter stating they were called to work. I obtained a letter from my employer stating I could not attend the classes. They have since refused to refund my money despite; not notifying me of the cancellation policy ahead of time, registering within the cancellation policy window, receiving their money back from REMOVEDfor their tests, and refusing to resolve the issue after many attempts.
Business Response
Date: 10/02/2025
We appreciate the opportunity to respond to Mr. REMOVEDconcerns. Crane Tech has provided safety and certification training for nearly 50 years, and we value transparency and fairness in all student interactions.
Timeline of Events
On April 1, 2025, Mr. REMOVEDexpressed interest in our certification preparation course beginning April 21, 2025. That same day, he was sent detailed course information, including logistics, fees, requirements, and our cancellation policy, which is also published on our website for full transparency. On April 16, 2025, Mr. REMOVEDsubmitted his application and paymentalready within the 10-business-day cancellation window outlined in the policy. Our team acknowledged receipt and again provided course logistics and the cancellation terms. At that time, his application was also submitted to the REMOVEDfor the Certification of Crane Operators (REMOVED) to secure his written exam seats.
Late in the evening of April 20, 2025less than 12 hours before the start of classMr. REMOVEDnotified us he could not attend and requested a refund.
On April 21, 2025, our staff promptly replied, confirming that his full tuition would be held on credit for up to one year in accordance with policy.
On April 22, 2025, his employer sent a letter verifying that he had been called to work. While such documentation allows rescheduling, it does not override the stated refund policy.
Our Policy and Resolution
Our cancellation policy states that tuition is non-refundable but may be applied toward another course for up to one year. This ensures fairness to all students and allows us to meet REMOVEDdeadlines and administrative costs.
The tuition Mr. REMOVEDpaid is a flat program rate that includes classroom instruction, materials, and registration for up to three written exams and one practical exam. The cost does not change if a candidate elects to take fewer exams. In his case, only the written exam applications had been submitted at the time of cancellation, so only those fees were later eligible for refund from REMOVED
In this situation, Crane Tech went beyond standard policy:--We credited his full tuition ($2,395) toward future training, valid through April 21, 2026.
--When REMOVEDlater refunded a portion of his written exam fees (less their standard $30 administrative deduction), we returned that amount to Mr. REMOVEDand reduced his training credit to $2,205.Current Resolution
At this time, Mr. REMOVEDhas received:
--A refund of all REMOVEDfees that were returned to REMOVED
--A training credit of $2,205, valid for one full year from the original course date. While we regret that Mr. REMOVEDwas unable to attend as planned, we believe this resolution is both consistent with our policies and a fair accommodation. We remain committed to helping him apply the credit toward certification training before April 21, 2026.
