I went in in an emergency situation and did not review my benefits, which was my fault. What the doctor did was his. He first told me that he did not take my insurance for lenses and frames but did for the exam. I asked him to do the exam thinking I could get glasses elsewhere. While he was performing it he said he was mistaken and did take my insurance. I picked out frames and they wanted $290 for what I thought was the cost of the lenses, similar to what I had paid under a PPO (I now have an HMO) for progressive lenses. It turns out that my benefit is for $400 for lenses and frames, and he didn't use a cent of that. Instead he took it from the flex debit card Humana gives ** with $1,000 on it. Basically he took me for the $290 he put on it and now, since I have used my benefit for an exam, I will have to pay out of pocket for that at my new doc because he won't sell glasses without doing the exam. I was going to use the rest for a hearing aid. Not now. I picked up the glasses and tried them for a week and couldn't get them to work for me. I stand at my computer all of the time and looking down was the problem. I brought them back and was told that the field of vision was ground narrowly and the glasses WOULD NOT WORK for me if I stood at my computer. The optician actually said this. I asked at my new doctor if they ever sold glasses with that narrow a field of vision and she said, "not if we can help it." The broken glasses I brought into Manatee Optometry which the doctor read were wide field. They offered me a credit, which I decline because I cannot do business with someone I cannot trust. Besides, I have no reason to think that the outcome would be any different. Dr. ********* actually told the rep. for the company that handles glasses for Humana that I had told him that I changed jobs and that's why the glasses didn't now work. I haven't worked in years. That was hardly the only questionable thing he said but he said it to a third party.
