In January 2023, I contacted Adkins Building to initiate a renovation project primarily focused on replacing damaged flooring. Due to severe damage to our subfloors, Adkins subcontracted ****** ******** * ****** **** to complete the removal of old flooring, subfloor replacement, and vinyl flooring installation, which was finished in May 2023.
By October 2023, I began noticing significant issues with the flooring, including uneven areas and separation. Despite Adkins's attempt to address the problem, the issues persisted. In October 2024, the flooring continued to crack, and Adkins attributed this to moisture in the crawlspace, rather than their work or materials.
After further investigation and consultations with experts, I became concerned that the subfloor material used by Adkins was substandard. Experts, including a termite company, a different general contractor, and a crawl space/foundation expert, confirmed that the material was likely not pressure-treated plywood, with the crawl space/foundation expert ruling out moisture as the primary cause of the damage. Despite offering to pay for the correct materials, Adkins refused to honor the warranty and failed to provide proof of the materials used. Instead, they sent misleading photos, claiming that markings on the plywood indicated it was pressure-treated, which was later disproven. This appeared to be an intentional attempt to deceive me to avoid responsibility for the defective work. I also discovered that Adkins failed to obtain the necessary permits for the floor sheathing replacement, as required by the Florida Building Code.
    Key Alleged Violations:
    Breach of Warranty
    Failure to Obtain Required Permits
    Unlicensed Subcontracting
    Failure to Meet Building Codes
    Deceptive Trade Practices
I'm still working towards a resolution, but I’m guessing that will take months or years, as we’ve had to involve attorneys. I am sharing my experience to inform others and would highly recommend avoiding this company.
