I had a triple laminectomy on my cervical spine on July 21, 2021 performed at Marcus ************ Institute - part of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. I received an invoice from them recently (first statement date 4/22/25) for that very surgery!! What facility bills patients four years later?!!! Either this is fraud (many practices try ardently to take advantage of the elderly down here in *******) or, the hospital needs some serious help and restructuring of its bookeeping department! Regardless, there should be (if there is not one in place already) a statute of limitations on billing periods for hospitals and healthcare providers. I have had multiple surgeries (some spinal/some not) and have never, ever had to pay anything! I have fantastic insurance. I tried to call the company that is doing the billing only to get a recorded menu repeating how to make payments. There was no way to speak to a person. I would so appreciate anything the BBB can do to help. I am on a fixed income, and this is very disturbing. I know that many of my neighbors would blindly pay an invoice like this without questioning and sacrifice food because of it. I believe this is one of the worst forms of fraud!Business Response

Hello - I did received a call from Boca Raton Regional Hospital. I was referred to someone in the billing department who looked up my account and said that it shows a zero balance. The woman I spoke to promised to send confirmation of that zero balance to me via the **** Mail within 5-7 business days. Meanwhile, I also spoke to someone in Medical Records. I am going to request my records to see if anyone by the last name of ******* truly provided services to me during my 2021 hospital admission. I also sent letters to both ************** (the originator of the invoice I received) and also to Sentinent Physicians, PC (the recipient of any payments made) via US Mail. Both letters were sent certified with a return receipt coming to me. I very much suspect that the invoice I received is indeed fraud. I believe that somehow a phony company was able to get my personal information and confirm my post-surgical hospital stay and that they are trying to collect funds not owed before the billing statute of limitations expires. Please do not close my case as of yet. I appreciate the BBB reaching out to Boca Raton Regional Hospital on my behalf! I am continuing to do legwork on my end as well. If the BBB could contact ************** and Sentinent Physicians to check as to whether they are both legitimate companies, that would be phenomenal. If I receive any further information, I will update in this file. Thank you again!Customer Answer

**** Womens Health and Wellness Institute My name is Xiona *****, and I had an appointment with Dr. ********* ***** who specializes in Urogynecology because I was referred to go to this facility to be evaluated. When I arrived, I was in the waiting area for close to an hour prior to being seen. The doctors assistant that came out asked me to provide a urine sample. At the time, I had a yeast infection and mentioned that Id prefer to speak to the doctor of concerns I held with my physical health and my personal/familial background as opposed to any invasive procedures. After I provided the sample, I met with the assistant in an examination room where I saw what a catheter, microscope, and speculum likely laid out and repeated to her of my concerns; however, she had insisted that nothing was entering my body, and the doctor would look from the outside vaginal area. Once the doctor introduced herself and assistant left, I told her of my past interactions with other doctors, wherein these invasive instruments irritated me to the point that I couldnt urine normally and felt an unusual amount of pain. The doctor immediately started the examination, and I felt the doctors fingers as she said, okay we are inside and these devices were put inside without any word. I was surprised because I told the nurse that I didnt want any instrument inside my body prior to the procedure repeatedly.Xiona ***** ************Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:The gynecologist, her assistant, and the hospital advocate dismissed my feelings, suggesting that I was merely complaining due to my anxiety. While the gynecologist did acknowledge my complaint, she ignored my clear "no" and proceeded with a painful examination using her instruments. It is like she was enjoying making me feel in pain. The police officers said the hospital and the staff didn't collaborate with the investigation when I went to the police station to request a copy of the incident.
Sincerely,

I needed a procedure, I knew that my insurance covered it, but I was responsible for 25%. I called the hospital and gave them my insurance info so they could check if this is the case. The receptionist confirmed that my insurance does cover this procedure, and my responsibility (25%) will be $105, which I had to pay at the time of the visit. They sent me a bill later, asking for additional $325. I spoke to ***************** from *************************** who told me that $105 was just an estimate. I told her that nothing has changed, they knew how much the procedure cost, and they knew that I was responsible for 25%. How could they mess up like that and give such wrong estimate. She couldn't answer this questions and was repeating "just estimate" over and over again! They made a mistake and don't want to admit it. They are trying to overcharge me. I would have gone to a different hospital if they gave me a correct estimate. This is very wrong!Business Response

I had COVID 19 in June 2022, my ************** referred me for monoclonal antibody treatment and provided me the # to Boca Regional Hospital (Baptist Health) to make an apt. I called and received a call back with an appointment for the next day 6/23/2022, they advised me where to go and what time. I arrived for my appointment and myself and 4 or 5 other people were also awaiting treatment, we were all ushered to specific treatment rooms 2 persons per room. I was administered the drug and left. I later received a bill for $200.00 which is my ER visit co-payment, this was a preset appointment not an emergency room visit, I'd be happy to pay my normal Dr visit co-pay $15, but not the $200.00 for ER, I feel this is fraudulently charged as an ER visit. The Floridahealth.gov website states: "How much will it cost? There is no cost for the treatment. No one will be denied services due to inability to pay for administrative cost at **************** sites. However, insurance can be billed if available." My insurance company (Aetna) stated the hospital needs to resend the claim with corrected claim information. The account number on the ********************** bill is: H2217400509Business Response

Hello,
After review of this complaint and the visit details it was determined that the claim was billed appropriately to the patient's insurance and thereafter to the patient for the copay responsibility ($200.00).
The patient came to our Emergency Room for Covid-19 infusion treatment. Service was rendered and patient was discharged from the ************************** The claim was billed as a Emergency Room visit level 1 under revenue code 450. This is standard practice for this type of visit. The claim is only reimbursable for the Emergency Room visit and not for the drug that was administered.
This account was closed on 10/18/2022 when the patient paid for the copay ($200.00) applied by her insurance plan.
