I bought PIE workers comp insurance because it was affordable for my small business. Once I got to a position where I no longer needed workers comp insurance, I decided to cancel my policy. That was on 10/2/2024. On November 7 2024 I was contacted by ************************* about performing an "audit" on my workers comp policy. I begrudgingly filled out all the information they requested. Today, 12/5/2024 I receive a bill from PIE insurance for ******. When I contact them about what this bill is for, they told me it was for an audit of my 2023 policy and that they require more money, even though I never filed any claims. They also say they will automatically draft the funds from my checking account. On 09/27/2024 I paid ******* for my ***** policy. On 10/2/2024 I paid them ****** for my ***** audit. I'm not sure what the audit from ************************* covered. Now today 12/5/2024 they are requesting another ****** for my 2023 audit. I asked when I would receive my refund for cancelling a 6-day old policy for *****. They told me "after the audit is complete". I asked if the audit had even been started. They said no.This company runs 2 years behind on audits. Then, when the audit is complete, they charge you more money even after paying your premium in full. Then when you want to cancel your policy, they hold up your refund.Initial Complaint

We had Pie Insurance for our worker's compensation policy. When our renewal came about in April of 2024, the price increased drastically and so we needed to work with our insurance agent to find another company. There was no time to get a new company in place before the expiration date, so we renewed the Pie Insurance policy for one month and then cancelled it when we found the new one. I have been battling with Pie Insurance since May/June of 2024 for a refund of what we paid for this policy for one month. They took a down payment and then one or two months' worth of premium out of our account. I have been calling and at first it was an audit needed to be done for the one month of wages to verify the information. I did the audit, I spoke with the audit company (******) and she had sent the audit results back to Pie Insurance. They tried to tell me they didn't have the completed audit which was a lie. Now they are admitting they have the audit results and that there is an error in their system to be able to read and process the audit. This error has been going on for at least 3 weeks now and IT has not fixed it. I just want my refund. I am tired of calling them all the time and arguing with them. It has been 6 months. I am asking for help trying to get this resolved. Thank you!Customer Answer

The company did refund us $326.00. However, they kept $500.00 for the early cancellation fee of the policy. The policy states that they was no early cancellation fee. So they still owe us $500.00. I appreciate you trying to contact them and help in this matter. Thanks!

On 3/8/24 Pie SE Insurance withdrew $6170 from my account. I immediately got in touch with ******* and Associates, the broker, working on my case. Who informed me that probably *** insurance did not receive the paperwork on time. However, *** Insurance took 10 days to respond. My broker informed me that they were trying to send the information requested to the insurance company but that they weren't responding. They finally responded with an email inquiring that my broker send information, which they sent over. I called to make sure the information was received by ***, they took an additional 10 days to respond. On the 11th day, they informed us that they did not receive the documents. However, after inquiring further they confirmed that it was received and nothing else was needed. However, on 4/9/2024 they withdrew another $6170 from my bank account. Again, my broker tried to contact them, and no response. after multiple attempts, they were able to reach someone in the *** insurance and were told they needed additional documentation to complete the audit. This was after, we had been told that nothing else was needed. It has been over 15 days since the last requested document was sent without an answer. Upon calling them today, I was told they had called me on 3 separate occasions, but I never received a call. They stated that the case was still open and that it was transferred to a partner company ****. This company does not answer phones and only has a voice message, where you can leave your name to get a contact. After leaving my information, they called me and stated they could not find my policy and transferred me to another department where I left another voicemail. I am still awaiting a response and am out of over $12,000. My automatic payment is $1613 they, however, withdrew $6,170, twice with no explanation.Initial Complaint

PIE requested a premium audit in July of 2023 for a 2022 Worker Comp policy. Our company provided all of the requested information on time. There was never any follow up or request for additional information or clarifications. Seven month later, in early February of 2024 we received the premium results and a balance due notice of over $3,500.00 and told this would be deducted on 2/21. This was easily contested as the auditor obviously misallocated salaries to the wrong job classification code as there are only 4 FT employees. *** was contacted through their own suggested methods of communication, email (as they will never pick up a phone line or return a voicemail), and I requested that the information be corrected before any deduction occurred. This was several weeks ahead of the scheduled deduction. The clarifying documentation was emailed no less than 4 different times with no response. Now today after several weeks of attempts to resolve the matter PIE deducted over $3,500.00 from the company payroll account. If they don't have the capabilities to address their own mistakes or even communicate with customers over basic issues like billing they shouldn't be able to have a license to operate in the ********************** industry. I should have known not to continue to use them by how bad their service has been. I would practically have to beg for renewal info. And only after 3 years did they finally get our business addresses correct. I've had other WC policies for the past 16 years with absolutely no issues. I have to think the issues I'm facing are based on a culture that just doesn't care about servicing their customers or they are so understaffed that they shouldn't be allowed to operate in this industry.Next, I will contact the **** of Insurance to file a complaint because if I've had to give this much effort to try and resolve a clearly incorrect audit how hard will it be to get the thousands of dollars wrongly taken returned to our company?Initial Complaint

Pie Insurance sent a sales marketing flyer to (*********************** ******************** ********, ******************, Soquel CA. It stated that their records indicated my worker's comp insurance would expire on 8/29/2023, and they would quote me for a new policy.1. There is no *********************** at ************* My name is ******************* 2. I am the owner of **** ******** at ************* (for the last 16 years) 3. I do not have now, nor have I ever had employees, so no workman's comp has ever been required. 4. When I called to inquire into the possibility of contractor fraud (this *************** using my contractor's lic# and address to operate illegally, I was told they don't know how they got their information for their records, there was no one else in the company to discuss the issue with, and hung up on me 4 times. (I then resorted to this complaint) 5. I would like to find out where they get their info, so I can determine whether someone is fraudulently using my lic# and address, or if it's just gross incompetence on their end. (Which, after speaking to several different employees, (even though they all sounded like the exact same person) would seem a likely scenario.Business Response

They are not reliable. We just switched and already hate them! They are unable to reset your password. Something that simple, we are on a back and forth about this stupid subject for weeks now, yes you read that right! Something simple has become a nightmare, as my co-workers who deals with insurance are unable to connect with the account. Never have I ever in my life I came across something so ridiculous as this. This company is a complete joke. They had my account set up with the wrong email, I asked them to change that, after too many back and forth (not worth my time honestly) they were finally able to change to the correct email, however, someway somehow, they messed the entire account, they locked me out, and they are unable to get my account live again, it was just a simple reset and make you change a password. I am so ******, as we are unable to change any company's information, or bank information, or password for our own security. Their IT Team ***** and they don't know what they are doing, they keep milking the job that should have been done already. This is Insurance hard as a burnt crust pie. I don't recommend to anyone and as I read the other 1 star reviews everything starts to make sense now. I am already looking for another one because they're not worth my business.Initial Complaint

My nonprofit purchased insurance from PIE for a short-term program. We paid the fees in full and canceled the policy at the end of the project. PIE stated that they might owe us a refund and they wanted to audit our salaries. I sent the salaries in to them. We made much less than they insured us for; however, we had to insure at a minimal level. We insured at $80,000 although our company makes less than $50,000 annually and since this is workman's comp insurance, we made around $10,000 although we insured for $80,000. They emailed me and said they were billing us more money after their audit as we made more than the amount we were insured for. This is not true. We made thousands less than we insured for. They created a bogus worksheet to say, oh no, you earned too much. You have to pay us more. I informed them that our policy was paid in full and has been canceled since September. We will not pay them an additional amount for monies we did not earn. They are now billing me continuously for an amount we do not owe to them. I have emailed them numerous times, but have decided that since they do not wish to acknowledge their error, and seem to be scamming customers for more money than the policies require, I am logging my complaint here.
