We contacted Spotless Chimney for a chimney cleaning a couple weeks after having necessary mason work and repairs completed on our chimney (note the company that did our mason work and repairs does not do chimney cleaning). We contacted Spotless Chimney to perform a cleaning and it seems they don’t actually perform cleanings until they complete an inspection which we were not clearly understanding. Upon their departure from our home, they DID NOTt perform a cleaning and cashed our check immediately. They verbally stated that our chimney was in such poor condition and should NOT be used until they completed the extensive and costly work (up to $20,000.00) before they could perform a cleaning. I immediately called to speak to Spotless Chimney (for clarification) and they informed me that 1) they were there to do an inspection (which was again not clear to me as I only required a cleaning following chimney repairs) and 2) they would not proceed with a cleaning until the repairs were completed. At this point the representative informed me that she had a transcript of the initial call and would forward a copy to me. What the representative forwarded to me was an actual recording of our call and during that recorded call, failed to mention the call was being recorded. Needing further clarification, I requested a manager who went through the report and findings with me. I expressed my confusion as we had quotes from other companies that did not compare to the work Spotless Chimney stated was an absolute necessity. Again, we had actually contracted with one of the other Chimney Companies for repairs which they did complete approximately 2 weeks prior to our interactions with Spotless Chimney. I circled back with the initial company that performed the work on the fireplace and provided them with a copy of the report from Spotless Chimney. Unfortunately, I did not do enough homework but learned from multiple services that Spotless Chimney is notorious for this specific work ethic and trying to scam you into paying thousands of dollars for unnecessary work. The company confirmed that all the statements and claims made in the report by Spotless Chimney were completely inaccurate and our fireplace is absolutely fine and just required a cleaning (a service they do not provide). We are seeking the return of the payment we made to Spotless Chimney so we can proceed with a cleaning via a reputable company.

Their main objective seems to be to sell customers expensive, needless repairs. I called Spotless Chimney and asked to have two flues inspected and cleaned, if necessary. They recommended their level 2 inspection, which includes a detailed inspection of one flue and a "complimentary" cleaning of that flue if it is in acceptable condition to do so, for approximately $250. I have two flues in one chimney so around $500. The inspector sent to do the work looked, acted and spoke with obvious inexperience.  He seemed like he had been "schooled" with the proper buzzwords.  He spent an hour in my basement inspecting the flues, an hour sitting in his van in my driveway, then used a drone to inspect the exterior and top of the chimney, and then returned to his van for another hour. He then recommended that the full chimney be completely torn down and rebuilt, including new flue liners, and gave me a quote for $45,000 to do so.  During the 3 to 4 hours the tech spent at my house, neither of my flues were cleaned because the tech claimed cleaning the flues would damage them due to the condition they were in.  I was charged a total of $478 for this abbreviated effort. I called and asked for at least half of my money back because they only completed half of the service I hired them to do (inspected but did not clean). They said they would give me a credit towards the $45000 worth of work they recommended but would not give me any sort of refund. I have since had a reputable chimney company inspect and clean both my flues for $350, without telling them that Spotless was ever here. They sent out an experienced, knowledgeable tech who stated that the chimney was in good condition but that I do need both flues relined. Their recommendations are to replace the top two rows of bricks, reline both flues, repair the crown, install stainless flue caps , and apply water repellent. Total estimate from the reputable company is $15,043. Total estimate from Spotless Chimneys is $45000.
