  In December 2023, BBB contacted Elite-Landscape regarding claims in its advertising.
  
  Its website states "We only use eco-friendly, child and pet-safe products." According to the BBB Code of Advertising, advertisers should not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claims like “green” or “eco-friendly.”  General claims must be qualified with specific environmental benefits. When an advertiser qualifies a general claim with a specific benefit, the benefit should be significant.  Advertisers must possess competent and reliable evidence (often scientific evidence) to support all environmental benefit claims. Qualifications for any claim must be clear, conspicuous and understandable. Unless clear from the context, any environmental claim must specify clearly and conspicuously whether the claim applies to the product, the product’s packaging, a service or just to a portion of the product, package or service. The business did not respond to BBB's request that it qualify its claims with specific environmental benefits.
  
  Connecticut state law requires that every contractor include his/her Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) Registration number on all advertising in all media.  The business did not respond to BBB's suggestion that it add this number to its advertising to become compliant with Connecticut state law.
