Important information

  • Advertising Review:
In September 2025, BBB contacted Eyeglasses.com regarding claims in its advertising.

Its website included the statements "Varilux - #1 Progressive Lens in the World" and "Crizal Rock - "World's Hardest Anti-reflective Coating."  According to the BBB Code of Advertising, superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims can be proved or disproved.  The business modified these claims, which now state “World’s Best Selling Progressive Lens” (Varilux) and "The Hardest Anti-reflective Coating” (Crizal Rock), but failed to provide substantiation in support of the current claims.

Its website states that "Our lenses are all US made by world leaders in prescription lenses." Made in USA and similar terms used to describe the origin of a product must be truthful and substantiated. An advertiser must not express or imply that a product or product line is exclusively Made in USA unless all or virtually all of the product is made in the U.S. All significant parts and processing that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. That is, the product should contain no or negligible foreign content. The business did not provide substantiation for this claim.

The claims "Our prices are typically about the same as Wal-Mart and Costco, and close to half of other optical stores" and  "Lower Prices On Stylish Prescription Eyeglasses Online Glasses prices are about 50% Lower Than Average Retail" appear on the company's website. Its product prices are advertised as some type of price comparison, such as "$890.00 (with a strikeout)  $445.00," where the lower price is the selling price.  Advertisers may offer a price reduction or savings by comparing their selling price with their own former selling price, the current selling price of identical products sold by others, or the current selling price of a comparable product sold by the advertiser or others. Savings and lower price claims require substantiation and disclosure of the basis of the price comparison. The business did not modify or substantiate its claims.

The BBB Code of Advertising states the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser.  Eyeglasses.com's website advertises in several places "No Restocking Fee." However, its returns policy states "We do not charge restocking fees unless you are returning 4 or more items, in which case there is a 20% restocking fee starting with the fourth item."  Misrepresentation may result not only from direct statements, but by omitting or obscuring a material fact. BBB suggested that the business modify the "No Restocking Fee" claim and/or clearly and conspicuously include the limitation. To date, the business has not made these adjustments.

Its website states "When you place an order for custom lenses, we begin making them right away. If you cancel the order once we have started making the lenses, we have already incurred a cost for the lenses and so we are not able to provide a full refund for the lenses at that point. Lenses are custom made to your specifications, and cannot be resold, so they must then be thrown into the garbage. We can still cancel the order, but there will be a fee of 50% of the cost of the lenses. The cost of the frames will be refunded 100%."  BBB requested that the business more accurately specify when work typically begins so consumers understand any available grace period for returns and more clearly state that the 50% fee is not an additional fee, but is a 50% refund of the lens cost. The business did not make modifications to these claims.
