I hired Justin Emmert of Emmert's Remodeling, LLC to re-do my bathroom and add structural supports in our crawlspace. The cost was $12,000 ($5,000 for the bathroom and $7,000 for the structure). I paid $5,000 upfront. They started the work in September 2022. Justin never told me that he had a full-time job at Electric Boat and that he would be sending 4 young, unexperienced guys to work on my house. The first day, one of them showed up smelling like pot. Justin said that's just their culture. I told him he better not show up to work smelling like that again. The communication between the crew and Justin was horrible. They didn't even know the details of the job. They said not to worry because if they didn't know what to do, they would just facetime Justin and he would walk them through it. Several times they had to borrow our most basic tools: a hammer, screwdriver and wrench. BTW, we never got our hammer back. The used our brand new wheel barrel to mix cement without our permission, they wiped mud on my good towels and spilled white powder on our brand new driveway which didn't wash away. Their work was very shoddy, floor boards were cut too short and their idea of fixing it was just to cover it up with molding. The spacing of the shower tiles are not all the same and the depth is off as well. The tub is not level and the toilet wobbles when you sit on it. The sink handles were installed backwards and it took 2 more times to fix it. For the crawlspace support structures, we had a structural engineer draw up instructions and Justin did not follow them correctly. He made the supports 1' x 2' when they were supposed to be 2' x 2'. The structural engineer wouldn't sign off on the work. Justin came back and re-did it so the structural engineer finally signed off on it. I asked Justin for my money back on the bathroom, he said he would refund me $1,500 (and put it in writing with signature) but never did. I am now in the process of suing him to get my money back.

Homeowners Beware!!! This company should not be used for any bathroom remodel however small or large it might be. My husband and I encountered a slew of problems along the way - our 10 day project lasted for over 2 months and still was not completed and had numerous issues. It says something when the crew themselves say they aren’t capable of doing what was promised in the contract! During our research we found a company that would provide us with cabinets at a reasonable price, however the cabinets were not procured from that company because the Contractor stated that he found better pricing. We came to find out that this was in fact not true and discovered that the identical cabinets he procured were not cheaper and in the end we spent $1,500+ of our material allowance unnecessarily. In the case of the tile, rework has used over 200 sq ft of additional tile (floor and wall) not originally required, but which was paid for by our down payment based on an inaccurate estimate by the Contractor; the tile floor in the shower area was redone at least 3 times due to the Contractors inability to slope the shower floor correctly. Additionally, when a standing water test was finally performed, a leak occurred due to the Contractors negligence that resulted in damage to the ceiling below the bathroom which necessitated repairs costing thousands of dollars (paid out of pocket by us). As a result, we have now brought in a reputable company to fix all the issues outlined below and since many were infrastructure related, the entire bathroom had to be partially gutted again. - Horrible tile job (grout wasn’t cleaned up properly so it hardened over finished tile) which they tried removing with a dremel tool!! This ultimately ruined the tiles. - No thinset under cement board for floor tiles (Just screwed the cement board to the plywood which resulted in cracking grout lines/loose tiles) - Didn’t join neighboring pieces of Sheetrock together with tape and mud before tiling - Built niche incorrectly by gluing the tiles directly to sheet rock - Pony wall was built wrong - Didn’t secure vanity to floor - Plumbing was not to code (water feeds) Additionally, this Contractor was behind payment for his own people by three weeks and as a result asked if we could advance him additional funds not consistent with the contract terms. Lastly, the Contractor will probably tell you that we were picky and unreasonable which is exactly how he described a previous customer with a bad review to us however, we are more than happy to share photos of their work.
