Door invoice has the date of 11/11/2024. However, the order was placed by me with Jim C******* of Rings End, ******* **, on 6/27/2024.

Cost involved include a door purchase receipt of $7178.63, plus payment for missing and damaged materials of approximately $800.

My expectation was to receive this door in 4 - 6 weeks with bore holes drilled according to spec, with all required installation materials, no damage, and ready to install and stain.

Instead, I received the door in May 2025 with the following issues:
      - 5 month delay in placing the order with no communication, which resulted in a 10 month delay in installation because no one will install a door in the winter.
      - Right handed swing ordered, left hand swing delivered
      - Missing screws, plug pack, and installation brackets
      - Sealant escaping between window and window frame
      - Insulation material escaping between joints of the wood
      - Screws used to attach sidelights around the entire door frame installed in wrong location (should be behind weather stripping where they are not visible)
      - Damaged bottom outer corner of door
      - Door delivered with no protective covering on the glass
      - Bent middle hinge
      - Jam bore holes misaligned with door by 0.5" preventing the door from being closed
      - No communication on resolutions for months creating a safety issue with the ability to properly lock the door

Rings End has refused to directly address any of the issues. Nothing has been replaced, repaired, or re-supplied. Instead, they have offered a 10% refund, which I have refused.

I was not influenced by advertising in relation to this purchase, and I am not aware of the wording used by Rings End in their advertising for ******* doors.

      Business Response

      Date: 09/18/2025

To whom it may concern :
It is our goal to provide our customers with quality products and service that can help them achieve the goals of their home improvement projects.  When there are issues with the product we supply that were caused by us or are manufacturer/vendor partners,  it is our goal to appropriately address them. In the case of this complaint, our team attempted to work with the customer to address the ordering and manufacturing issues.   The machining issues that occurred, we took responsibility for and worked to achieve an appropriate solution.  Unfortunately, some of the issues the customer has had seem to be due to installation issues or expectation of product beyond the manufacturer/industry standards.   We also offered what we felt was a fair offer of good will compensation for the issues that occurred which were rejected without further communication from the customer.   Please find our responses to the specific issues in the complaint below.

Timing of order and Lead time:
The door in question was released for order on 8/31/2024, when we received the deposit required to order the door.  If his contractor told him it was ordered on 6/27 that was not true.  It was also noted on the order and communicated that it was a 10-week lead time and this was indicated by us on the paperwork at the time of the order.  The door arrived on 11/11/2024 approximately 10 weeks after the order.

      Handing of door:
Unfortunately the customer opted not to have the door delivered for another six months. At which point they realized that they were looking for a Left-hand swing door and not the Right-Handed swing door that was ordered.  Our understanding is that the customer did not understand that the handing was viewed from the exterior.   We offered to order another door, but the customer did not want to wait the 10 weeks and agreed to keep the door as it was ordered.

      Sealant squeeze out:
Sealant squeeze out is a normal occurrence on windows and doors in a wet glaze application.  The sealant squeeze out while not aesthetically pleasing actually indicates that the glass is properly sealed.   The industry practice is that it is to be removed by the finisher on the jobsite.

      Machining issues:
We did acknowledge that the jamb prep was not drilled in alignment with the latch bores and did offer to fix the issues.  The customer did not want to have the jamb replaced and opted for repair.  The repair was facilitated at no charge to the customer by ******** ***** ******* who did the hanging of the door and had mis-aligned the prep.

Exposed Screws: In talking to both *******, who manufactured the panels, and ******** ****h about the installation methods, it was confirmed that they do not screw through the door jamb to install the sidelites.  They are attached to their respective jambs before the jambs are mulled together.  Any screws through the jamb were done so during installation.  This was communicated to the customer on 7/14/25 via email.

      Missing parts:
It is not our practice to provide installation screw packs or plugs to our customers with doors, as the installation materials needed for each project vary and are the responsibility of the installer.

In conclusion, we were disappointed to receive this complaint as we pride ourselves in standing behind what we sell and being able to address issues that may arise to our customers' expectations.   We felt that we attempted to address the issues that arose fairly and even offered compensation above and beyond out of good faith due to some of the issues that occurred.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 09/19/2025

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response. My explanation follows.

It is great to hear about your customer service goals. I can say clearly that you have failed to meet these goals with your communication and service provided to my family.

Rings End did not take responsibility for any of the issues that occurred. All the issues I reported were either dismissed or blamed on ******, who subsequently dismissed them as well. Indeed, in your response, you take no responsibility once again for any of my complaints.

Timing of order and lead time
Jim C******* of Rings End ******* **, specifically told me that the door was ordered on 6/27/2024. My contractor was not involved whatsoever in this communication. I know that the door was actually ordered on 8/31/2024. That is in fact my complaint.

Jim C******* of Rings End ******* **, also told me that the lead time for this door was 6 weeks. In fact, the door arrived 11/11/2024, MORE THAN 10 weeks after Rings End actually ordered the door.

Moreover, no one at Rings End communicated to me that the door was available for delivery until the second week of December when I called Rings End. By then, temperatures had dropped to consistently below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and my contractor refused to do the door install.

The 6 month delay was entirely Rings End's fault.

      Handing of door
I reject your perspective of the events on the handing of the door, as there was no way for me to understand the handing of the door prior to the delivery. The delay and the handing of the door are not connected in any way.

Furthermore, my acceptance of the delivery of the door is not the same as my acceptance that you have properly compensated me for the error. I believed that I would be adequately compensated for this mistake when the installation was complete. So far, Rings End has not accepted any responsibility, nor offered compensation.

      Sealant squeeze out

I have previously heard your explanation. I have also cross-checked it with 5 different experienced contractors. None of them agree with your explanation. Doors of this kind are not suppose to have visible sealant and the contractors I spoke to have never had to clean this up.

      Machining issues
Your understanding of the events is inaccurate. I was forced to accept the workaround of larger jam plates. Rings End, ******, and ******** ****h refused any other remedy to the jam issue. I do not consider this a repair whatsoever. I consider this hiding the issue. I do not accept the workaround, and this issue is part of the basis for my demand for adequate compensation or a full door replacement.

I do not appreciate the complementary arrangement of ******** ***** by Rings End: I was lead to believe this company would do an actual repair, and instead, they did nothing beyond what a apprentice carpenter could do.

The only value I received from their visit was that they explained to me all of the things that Rings End and ****** did wrong with this door order and build.

      Exposed Screws
Your response is a complete misunderstanding of the issue. I have provided photos that clearly show this issue. My contractor did not touch the parts of the door that connect the side lights to the door. These screws were installed by ******* or ****** when assembling the door and sidelights. I am not complaining about screws that hold the door onto the door frame. I am complaining about screws that hold the sidelight to the door. This error is 100% the fault of Rings End and/or ******. Please review the photos and take more time to understand my issue.

      Missing parts
Again, I have previously heard your explanation. I have also cross-checked it with 5 different experienced contractors. None of them agree with your explanation. Because wood grain and styles are difficult to match, it is industry practice to provide plugs and screws. ******** ****h also told me that I should have received a screw and plug pack.

I continue to be deeply disappointed by Rings End's communications and handling of my issue. Not once has anyone from Rings End or ****** come to my home to inspect the issues.

I do not feel that Rings End is a positive member of the Darien community and I hope that the organization will reform and improve in the near future.

      Sincerely,
      **** ****
