- Advertising Review:In August 2022, BBB contacted Minute Maids Cleaning Service regarding claims in its advertising.
Its website's Home page states Minute Maids Cleaning Service has "..more than seven years of experience" and "Jobs completed 16,479+." Its listing at yelp.com states "From the business, History: "Established in 2021." BBB records show the business was incorporated in Connecticut as of 1/3/2021. According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB. BBB requested that Minute Maids Cleaning Service clarify the "..more than seven years of experience" statement, its actual business start date, and provide substantiation for the "Jobs completed 16,479+" claim, but did not receive a reply.
The statements "Eco-friendly" and "We provide Non-toxic cleaning products & high-quality kitchen & bathroom essentials that are safe for you & your guests" appear on its website. Advertisers should not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claims like “green” or “eco-friendly.” Advertisers must qualify general claims with specific environmental benefits and must possess competent and reliable evidence (often scientific evidence) to support all environmental benefit claims. Non-toxic claims likely convey that a product, package, or service is non-toxic both for humans and for the environment generally. Advertisers must either possess competent and reliable scientific evidence that this is the case or clearly and conspicuously qualify the claim to avoid confusion. BBB requested that the business add the necessary qualifications and provide substantiation for these claims, but the business did not reply.
Its website includes a "100% satisfaction Guaranteed" button and the statements "Worry-Free Experience, Backed by Our 100% Quality Service Guarantee" and "If you are not absolutely delighted with the cleaning, we will re-service the area within 24 hours of notification for free." According to the BBB Code of Advertising, advertisers should only use “satisfaction guarantee” if the seller refunds the full purchase price of the advertised service at the consumer's request. When “satisfaction guarantee” is used, any material limitations or conditions that apply to the guarantee must be clearly and conspicuously disclosed. The business did not respond when asked if it offers refunds if requested nor did the business add the terms of its guarantee wherever it is advertised.
Advertisers should possess and be prepared to substantiate any objective claims. Minute Maids Cleaning Service did respond to BBB's request for the required documentation in support of the following claims:
"Licensed, insured & bonded."
"ARCSI & IICRC Certified Our employees go through a comprehensive training & safety program & comply with all Federal & state laws & regulations."
"Our ARCSI & IIRCC associations demonstrate our professional commitment to quality, our constant training gives us a competitive edge so that we can bring you the quality & service that you expect."
"Minute Maids Cleaning Service is a Top Rated Cleaning Service featured on Nextdoor, Yelp, Houzz, Thumbtack, HomeAdvisor, & Porch."
yelp logo with 5 stars
Porch Guaranteed Professional 5 stars logo
"Nextdoor 2019 Winner"
"We are an A+ rated business, with experienced staff of professionals, who wouldn’t choose our service?"
At its website's FAQ page, under "Are your prices higher than other companies?"' the business answers "No, our prices are very competitive & far lower than franchise cleaning companies, our service has better quality & higher standards." The answer links to a cleaning service in Washington state. Minute Maids Cleaning Service's website also includes a "Compare our unmatched service" chart comparing its business and services to generic 'cleaning franchise' and 'independent cleaners' in categories including online booking, locally owned, professional teams, background checked, instant prices, 100 service guarantee, fast customer service, charitable donation, hourly rates, minimum charge 3 hours, licensed-bonded-insured, recurring service discount. According to the BBB Code of Advertising, advertisers must not deceptively or falsely disparage a competitor or competing products or services in their advertising. Truthful comparisons using factual information may help consumers make informed buying decisions, provided all representations are consistent with the general rules and prohibitions against false and deceptive advertising; the advertisement clearly and conspicuously discloses any material or significant limitations of the comparison; and the advertiser can substantiate all claims made. Minute Maids Cleaning Service did not provide the requested substantiation for these comparisons or explain why it is comparing its services to a company in Washington state.
