    Hello,

    I called Lucy’s Tailor’s on 3/26 to ask if it was possible to hem my dress for my brother’s wedding on 3/30. She agreed and told me to come in.

    I was given a pricing sheet (attached). I realize this was last minute and that she charges an additional $10 fee. Before I left I asked what the price would be and was told that Lucy would determine the price.

    I picked up my dress today and was told the charge was $135. I calmly asked Lucy how she determined that price based off her pricing sheet and she told me do not pay attention to the price sheet, she determines the final price. I expressed to her that I can’t help but feel she was deceitful because I asked about pricing numerous times and never was even told a price in this range. I paid $99 for my dress so she charged me more than my dress is even worth. I asked for an itemized receipt and she would not provide that either. Again, I asked why she wouldn’t mention the pricing to me prior and she continued to raise her voice and say my dress had 3 linings but it only has 2.

    In addition, I caught her charging my card twice. I asked her if she just charged my card again and she said she didn’t. Once another receipt came out of the register she then admitted that she did and would void one of the charges. I again expressed how disappointed I was with her behavior towards me as a customer and being deceived, then left.

    I am not asking for a refund because she did hem my dress, but I think it is wrong to try to take advantage of people. I have never paid for anything and have been told they can’t provide me with a receipt. I will never return to this business again and think it’s important to share my experience to help others.

    Hi I am the business owner from Lucy tailors, yes this customer came in, she came in after 6:00 after we closed at 6:00 I let her come in because she called prior to the other day. When she came I told her to try the dress on to be pinned it and she never asked me for the price personally because she seemed to be in a hurry to leave. I accommodated her due to the fact she was in need of a tailor for the dress she needed the dress in a couple days and due to the fact it was during our busiest season of the year. I did not charge her a late fee that she inclined of I have never charged a late fee for any tailor. When she came to pick it I told her the price of $135 and that it was to much due to the fact she only paid $99 dollars for the dress and I furthermore explained to her that it doesn’t matter how much you paid for the dress it was a lot of work because it was 3 lining in the dress and the dress was very wide and flowy we also give everyone free pressing with any alteration they get done. When I proceed to ring her out the card did not go through the first time and I charged it again and it went through twice on accident we didn’t know. I fully gave her a refund on one of the charges that went through. She was polite customer due to the fact she was not happy with our services I felt insulted when she told me she didn’t agree with price because almost all of my customers are very satisfied with my work and my prices.

    I am rejecting this response because:

    It is not true that I was in a rush and didn’t ask for pricing. Lucy seemed to be in a rush and I understood because it was closing time. Once she pinned my dress, I went to go change, and when I came out of the dressing room she was gone. I asked the girl at the front desk (assuming Lucy’s daughter or relative) and she was very short with me. I asked for a price range and was told “Lucy determines pricing”. That is where I got the pricing sheet. Again, I acknowledge and appreciate Lucy hemmed my dress for me on short notice, but feel very deceived by the price. 

    Lucy did refund me of the additional charge, but the charge did go through the first time because a receipt printed out and I signed it. I have no idea why she would run my card again without my permission but I appreciate that she refunded me the duplicate charge. I never disputed the price because of the cost of my dress, I included that in my statement to BBB and that is why it was used in her statement. After my experience I Googled Lucy Tailors and there are many reviews with similar experiences to mine. I wish I had done this before I went. When I asked for an itemized receipt of the charges Lucy got very loud with me and I can only assume it was because she was insulted. I was not trying to insult anyone, but when a customer asked for pricing and your employees avoid the question, then are given a price sheet that does not make sense to what you were charged, you can understand why I would feel deceived. Another customer walked in while she was yelling at me and I felt so embarrassed. I have never had an experience like this before and I can only hope that this is a learning opportunity for the business to treat their customers better and be honest about the pricing.

    I would like an itemized receipt of the charges. I asked for this the day I paid and was told it couldn’t be provided. I honestly wouldn’t have even paid without receiving a receipt if I didn’t need the dress for my brother’s wedding. I paid out of desperation.
