Bean & Bean Auctions, Inc. (B&B) was hired April 12, 2022 to run an estate auction of my late mother's household possessions. B&B was given access to the house to inventory and label items for auction, ran the auction online, and returned to the house to collect payment and distribute items to buyers. The auction opened on about April 25, 2022 and closed on May 12, 2022, followed by a 2-day pickup (May 13-14) during which buyers paid and collected their purchases. I was able to see the full list of items for the auction, and B&B was in frequent contact with me (text/phone) during the process, from inventory through closing and pickup. A text message from B&B on May 14, 2022, stated that auction payment and pickup were complete. On May 24, 2022, B&B met me to deliver the Consignor settlement and check for the auction. It was only on this date that I was informed that B&B had discovered a coin collection hidden away in my mother's house which was a family heirloom. My family had been looking for the coins but thought they were lost. B&B had already sold the coins in a different auction with a closing date of May 19, without informing me. I received a separate check for the coin sale, minus commission, with a Consignor settlement dated May 15 (i.e., after closing of the estate auction). I subsequently attempted to contact B&B, both directly and through my estate attorney, to complain about their actions, but no calls were returned. We would not have sold the coins, but I would have expected to be notified by B&B that they found them and to be consulted about selling them, particularly in a completely different auction after the closing of the estate auction. I believe B&B acted unethically and in bad faith in this matter. Since the coins were sold before I was informed that B&B found them, they cannot be recovered and returned. Therefore, I wish to be reimbursed for B&B's commission for the sale of the coins in the amount of $749.71.
