McMahon Landscaping was hired for landscaping job through ********** in April 2023. This included three fence posts, river rock, mulch, flagstone, plants, etc for $5k, with a 50% deposit up front that was paid.A couple guys showed up for a few hours and then left saying they'd be back the next day. No-call-no-shows for the next couple days as we're trying to get a hold of him. It's also now clear that the fence posts are leaning significantly; the repair was worse than the original. We sent photos of the fence posts and asked him to please correct them when he returned to finish the work... that's when things go wrong.The owner get angry and says that if we don't like his work then he'll drop off the deposit and someone else can do the work. He never shows up with the check and no follow-up. Very frustrating but we cancel the check with the bank and move on to another contractor. A couple days later I get a note from the bank that he tried to deposit the cancelled check. The work is ultimately completed by another contractor (McMahon Landscaping's work had to be scrapped and re-built). My house is mid-sale and the title company notifies me that McMahon Landscaping put a lien on the house. I call them and they now claims that "it was a 2 day job, and we did a days worth of work, so I expect to get the 50% deposit." They were there for a couple hours and none of the $3-4k of material was ever delivered/installed by him. I try to talk through a reasonable settlement but he essentially extorting me and keeping the house sale hostage. I finally have no choice and just give the title company the greenlight to pay him and even then he waits until the day of the closing to actually pick up him money and release the lien, nearly jeopardizing the house sale.This is essentially fraud. I was forced to pay $2,000 for a couple hours of work. Almost none of the services were completed. What was completed was poor workmanship and had to be re-built by another contractor.
