  You can pay $39 for a background check but based on where the customer might have lived, they can add hundreds of $$$ of additional fees without giving you the chance to REMOVED's REMOVEDwarned.

  The complaint relates to surcharges imposed by county courthouses. We notify our customers twice before submitting an order of the potential for these surcharges. They are passthrough costs imposed by local governments. Refund policy is clear in Terms regarding these surcharges.

  I would leave them a zero if I could. They intentionally scam customers with hidden fees that they supposedly get you to agree to. The background check for my employee was supposed to be $99. However, when I checked my statement I realized they changed an additional $100 for an REMOVEDfee that I never agreed to. I contacted their customer service and they didn't remedy the situation. Best part is they never even completed the employment verification process.

  Worst customer service skills. Company seems desperate and misleading. This company scammed me out of my money, and refused to allow me to speak to supervision. My name is REMOVEDand was mistreated by customer service 10/11/24. As a 100% service connected veteran I am outraged to be willing to die for my country just to be deceived by enemies within our own country. By the list of BBB complaints I realize I am not alone, Buyer beware!!!!!!

  I used ClearChecks recently to conduct a background check for a nanny that I am hiring. I paid $69 for a comprehensive check that includes Federal records search. A few hours after my applicant submitted their info, I got notified that all their data was Cleared. However, the applicant called me to let me know that accidentally they entered the wrong information for REMOVED. (They ended up copying their phone number into the REMOVEDfield).I contacted customer support and explained that the applicant made an error - but I was surprised that the system Cleared it. They then informed me that they just do a REMOVEDtrace without verifying whether it matches the name and address of the person submitting the info. So in fact, you could enter any random REMOVEDand still get passed as long as the REMOVEDis valid. This makes me lose trust in the validity of their verification process. I have worked on KYC products in the banking context. If there is a REMOVEDmismatch - the practice is to ask the user to enter the information again. Regardless, you shouldn't be getting a Clear report for an invalid REMOVED.Secondly, I requested customer service to let the applicant run the check again with the correct info. They refused to do so, and asked me to purchase another background check report. The customer support rep was REMOVEDand unhelpful - and didn't really engage in actually resolving the situation. What surprised me more was that this person is the head of customer support at the company. I wouldn't use this company again for background verifications. There are several options out there and they don't deserve your business.

  We do not market an SSN trace as a KYC product. We do flag mismatches in reports; this report included. We give the candidate 2 opportunities to enter their SSN on the application and they must match to be able to submit. We offered a discount on a new report as we incur costs on every background we run. We are sad to see an unhappy customer.

  Scam. Do not use!!!! If I could give zero I would. They make you think you are signing up for a flat fee that includes 7 years of county searches if you upgrade to a higher plan and then they also tack each county on as an additional fee. Supposedly there was something in the fine print that said there "may" be additional surcharges but I read everything & didn't see it. The customer service was terrible and would not refund my credit card so I plan to dispute the charges with my credit card company and get them removed from my statement. All of you other people who get scammed by them should do the same. Maybe if they get enough people disputing the charges & getting refunds they will make it more apparent on their website what exactly the fees are going to be.

  If I could give less than 1 star, I would. IF you need a background check done, do not use Clear Checks! The have terrible turn around times, and the worst customer service I have ever experienced. REMOVED, the manager is completely unhelpful and rude. They just want your money and have zero interest in providing results. In a world with an employee shortage and everyone is experiencing a hiring crisis, waiting more than 5 days to provide results that REMOVEDnot even be accurate is impossible to work with. I immediately regretted my decision to use their service and want to make sure others are aware this is a terrible company.

  This customer expected instant turnaround times on a county criminal background check. ClearChecks makes very conspicuous the average turnaround times for our background checks. 3-5 business days is average with some returning faster, others slower. This customer reached out to numerous agents at ClearChecks hoping for a different answer. When we made very plain the disclosures, the customer did not like the answer therefore complained. Consistent answers were provided. Further, our Terms of Service make it very clear that when an application has been submitted by a consumer, the background check cannot be refunded. Again, this was not satisfactory as the customer did not read the terms.

  Nothing that showed up on this report was accurate. The information that should have been there wasnt there. Worst background check company ever. I noticed they are based out of REMOVEDas well. They are 4 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.

  My son filled this out. He received a pdf copy of his digital signature which the time was 4 hours in advance from EST. These are obviously being out sourced through another country. Dont use this company.

  I specifically purchased the ClearHire Basic National Criminal Database Search and paid the additional $40 to add on the 7-year employment history. Because my applicant selected "self-employed", they sent the report back as "unable to verify". So, I did not get what I paid for. When I chatted with their agent, they stated that the employee has to upload proof of payment from jobs for them to verify employment of a self-employed person. Who's going to have copies of checks from up to 7 years ago, much less be willing to spend the time to upload them? Nobody will. So, if you're looking for employment history, this is not the right company to use! I did ask for a refund of the $40 employment history portion of my bill, and was quickly told "No, have a nice day" and the chat was disconnected. I had high hopes for this company, but can't recommend them since they obviously don't have capabilities needed for prior employment verifications.

  Total Scam! Now we live is a world where we have to run background checks on the background check company. We bought the "best" package for $70, which then require and extra charge for driving record and Employment verification... so $70 became $120. AND THEN WE PUSHED SUMBIT!!! Bad choice. Boom without any further authorization get billed ANOTHER $60 for an Equifax search (how is THAT not included) plus $30 for County criminal check. So $70 has become $190 so far. Now for the real kicker. Thankfully we were running this as a test before subjecting our employees to it, so I ran the check on myself. Did they find my Criminal Record? NO Did they find my numerous recent traffic violations? NOT ONE. Did they find my poor credit history and Tax lien? NOPE. So REMOVED. But if you're like me you didn't read this till after you had the same experience so just dispute the charge so they get a charge back!

  I completely agree with everything stated below and if I could give a negative number, I would. If you are looking for a company for background screening with solid customer service, find another company. The charges on the website are the tip of the iceberg- they will add other charges consistently for their search. I was told they could not complete employment verification with a fortune 500 company which I find ridiculous. No one will answer any emails or phone calls to discuss this issue, so I am disputing the charge via my credit card. I would recommend looking at other companies for your background screening needs.
