I would give zero stars if the was an option. Of the roughly dozen places I've lived with, they are hands-down the worst. I will stick to the facts in this paragraph. My fiance and I signed a lease with Landmark for 2021-22. Shortly thereafter, they were bought out by **** **** ******, and things took a turn for the worse. Essentially, they wanted us to move units a month into our lease so they could renovate our unit. We tried to opt out, and they said "no". We did not want to move a month into our lease, as it would have made unpacking pointless, and the timing was a huge problem with our personal lives. And we were deeply concerned over how casually they were taking away the apartment we had specifically signed for. We spoke with CSU's legal office for student housing. Basically, while we were entitled to that specific apartment, and while there was nothing in the lease that allowed Landmark to force us to move, we would essentially have zero recourse if Landmark claimed there was a "safety issue" during the remodeling of the building. We could try to fight the move, but we risked getting evicted. They advised strongly against fighting it. Since our lease was for a specific unit, and there were unable or unwilling to provide that unit, we asked to break the lease. And while we were able to do so, they charged us a "re-leasing fee", that they so graciously let us pay off with the deposit we had already paid. In short, we signed with them and paid the deposit for a specific apartment. They decided we would have to move a month into the lease, something that was absolutely a no-go for us. And then they effectively took our deposit (albeit with slightly more steps). Some miscellaneous things. It took a number of emails, and roughly 5 in-person visits to get them to put, in writing, that our apartment and any we might be moved into would be equipped with a washer and dryer. The subsequent apartment we would be moved into would already be renovated, and they referred to the fact that our rent wouldn't be increasing as "a discount". Now for my personal opinions. I saw a review elsewhere online for **** **** ****** saying something like "don't walk [away], run". I couldn't agree more. They seemed to have virtually zero regard for providing the apartment we signed for. They kept our deposit even though they were the ones unwilling to provide the apartment we signed for. They seem deliberately, suspiciously reluctant to put anything in writing. If you are thinking about your kid living here: your kid will not have the time or life experience to hold their own against these people. In my personal experience, every time I talked to Nicole I felt reassured, only to feel shafted later. I wonder if that is essentially her job.
