Received a notice addressed to a *********************** with the ************************************************** address. This notice regarded a data breach that was discovered at Pingora Loan Servicing and offers credit monitoring as a result. The problem is that *********************** is not the owner of a mortgage for the property at ***************************************************. Not sure who this individual is and concerned that my address has been exposed tied to an individual who does not own a property at *************************************************. I've tried to contact Pingora Loan Servicing with no success and see that they have been responsive through this medium. I'm concerned with identity theft, title fraud, and other fraudulent activity and this notice does not help. To repeat again, there is no *********************** that lives at the 16 ******* address nor are they the owner of this property. This complaint will be used as part of my investigation into how they received my address.Business Response

My adult daughter who is disabled and deaf, received a letter from Pingora stating they once had servicing rights to a mortgage loan in her name and are experiencing a security breath. This is impossible. This kind of letter creates a cloud of suspicion around her name and this company. Where can I go further with this company conduct? It is unfair practice to track disabled adults information and keep data about them.Business Response

Pingora regrets the security incident identified in the notice letter. While letters were sent beginning in April 2022, we continue to review our systems to ensure we are contacting everyone impacted. Our continuing review recently uncovered your information, which is why your letter was recently sent. Pingora is a passive investor in mortgage servicing rights, and we do not engage in the day-to-day servicing of any loans. *********** with multiple authorized subservicers to service and perform all customer service functions for all of the loans we manage, which is likely why you are not familiar with Pingora Loan Servicing. The identity of the particular subservicer handling your loan will be emailed to you separately. Please review the details of the letter you received. We encourage you to sign up the credit monitoring service with ***** referenced in the letter.Initial Complaint

September 20, 2022 I got a letter from Pingora Loan Servicing saying that my loan information had been exposed during a computer hacking of their servers. They referred me to Krollmonitoring.com with a membership number for a FREE YEAR of identity monitoring. ***, thanks so much for your generosity and the incompetent way that you have secured my PII (personally identifiable information). The issues:- 1.. As a retired IT professional I am constantly amazed at the way that companies don't care enough to hire the right people to properly secure their systems until after they have been hacked and the data has been stolen. This is usually because saving their money is more important to them than protecting the information that our loan companies have irresponsibly entrusted them with. Only after they have given away our information through their incompetence have they suddenly developed an understanding of the importance of protecting the information that they maintain. - 2. When signing up for the FREE MONITORING using the membership number that they provided it leads me to a signup screen where ***** Monitoring asks for information that Pingora Loan Servicing should have provided and that ***** already had when they provided the list of affected accounts which included mine. Asking these questions makes this appear to be more of a fishing expedition than providing a legitimate service.- 3. I am already enrolled with known legitimate ID monitoring services so why does Pingora assume that I want them to enroll me in another one? Why don't they ask me before assuming that I want or need this?I will be taking my lender to task for using such an unreliable company to service my loan and allowing access to my personal data.Business Response

Pingora regrets the security incident identified in the notice letter. Upon discovery, steps were immediately taken to contain the incident, notify federal law enforcement, and a forensic investigation firm was engaged. Security enhancements have also been made based on our investigation.
The group behind the security incident does not have a name. However, we have provided federal law enforcement with relevant information so they can pursue this group.
When signing up for the identity monitoring services on Krolls website, the questions asked are designed to confirm you are the individual listed in the letter. We do not assume that affected consumers do or do not have identity monitoring services. Rather, we offer such services to all affected consumers in order to comply with applicable state consumer data breach laws. If you are already enrolled in credit monitoring with another party, you are certainly free to use or not use the services we have offered through *****. Additionally, you may also choose to wait until the sign-up deadline listed in the letter to push out the expiration of the monitoring by ***** if you choose.
