The business made no attempt to resolve this issue. The home builder provided a home warranty of 2 year years for mechanical items in the home. Upon listing our home for sell and having a home inspection it was found that the ** system output temperatures were higher than what they should be. After having an HV** technician look at the system it was found that the leak in the system was caused by improper installation of fittings on the refrigerant piping running through the utility closet. After contacting the warranty department they stated the warranty had expired on mechanical items in the home 2 months prior. If the issues was with the system itself I would understand not honoring the warranty but the fact that this was verified by a professional as improper installation there is 0 reason they should not be liable for the cost of the repairs and refrigerant.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/20/2025

    Good morning -

Challenger Homes provides a two-year mechanical warranty, which expired approximately two months prior to this issue being reported. During the full warranty period, the homeowner did not submit any HVAC-related claims or report concerns with the systems performance.

The homeowners technician later identified a refrigerant leak, allegedly due to improper installation. However, our team was not given the opportunity to inspect the system or verify the technicians findings before repairs were completed. Without that opportunity, we cannot confirm the cause or determine whether the issue would have been covered under warranty.

We understand the timing is frustrating, but we must apply warranty terms consistently. We remain committed to quality and to supporting homeowners within the scope of the provided warranty.

    Thanks,

    Complaint: 23487720

I am rejecting this response. This issue was not reported because the system seemed to be operating normally and without a home inspection during the sale of our home the issue would have went unfound until the system eventually stopped working altogether from lack of refrigerant. Again to reiterate if this was a manufacturer defect of the system, lines, or mechanical parts I would be more willing to accept it being out of warranty, but since it was due to the installer when the house was built I wont. As for their time to inspect, their warranty representative ******* ******* essentially said since the warranty was out it was our obligation to fix it, I replied stating it as unacceptable and she did not reply. The point of Challenger inspecting prior to repair is mute since they denied the warranty claim to begin with. Not to mention their warranty department in the past has taken weeks to months to respond to/resolve open warranty claims.

    Sincerely,

    ***** *********

    Business Response

    Date: 07/03/2025

    Good morning -

We appreciate the additional comments from the homeowner, though our position remains unchanged.  The two-year mechanical warranty provided by Challenger Homes expired before this issue was reported. We understand that not all issues are immediately visible, but the warranty exists to define the timeframe during which any concerns, latent or otherwise, must be addressed.  We cannot retroactively apply warranty coverage once that period has ended.

Regarding communication: Once the claim was received, our representative responded and clearly explained that the mechanical warranty had expired. We regret that this was not the outcome the homeowner was seeking, but our team provided the appropriate information in a timely manner based on the terms of the warranty.

Lastly, while the homeowner feels that the issue is related to original installation, this determination was made solely by their contractor, without an opportunity for Challenger Homes or our trade partners to inspect or verify the conditions. That opportunity is an important part of our warranty resolution process and is outlined in the warranty documentation.

    Thanks,

    ****

I was denied a home insurance claim due to faulty workmanship of my roof. Challenger Homes is not willing to help me out whatsoever, as I am past the 12-month warranty. I feel like I have been swindled and purchased a home that "barely made inspection", if at all. My insurance adjuster and other roofers informed me that the roof was never FINISHED and that there are various points of "imminent failure". There were no signs of shingles getting torn off or anything... there were simply just shingles completely missing from lack of install (no nail holes showing proof).Challenger Homes has resisted me the entire journey. Even during the 12-month warranty period, they only would agree to fix ~50% of the items I submitted as faulty. I truly felt "gaslit" and quite honestly, lied to. I will never purchase another home from Challenger Homes. I want to caution people to stay away, or prompt the business to do the right thing.

    Business Response

    Date: 05/30/2025

    Good afternoon,

The homeowner submitted a warranty request on May 8, 2025approximately 18 months beyond the one-year warranty period. However, due to the nature of the concern, we arranged for our roofing contractor (not the original installer) to assess the issue as a courtesy.

During the inspection, it was noted that tarps had been placed over the affected area by another party. Our contractor found no visible installation deficiencies. Given that this is the first report of a roofing issue and based on the assessment, we concluded that the missing shingles were most likely caused by weather-related factors.

As a result, the claim has been denied.

    Thank you,

I am rejecting this response because:

The Roofer that Challenger sent out did not offer anything (no reason, no support, no next-steps) and did not even mention the tarp. He simply told me the roof was installed properly and there was nothing he could do. I have provided the photos prior to the tarp being installed that show missing shingles... with no existing nail holes, which If they existed, would elude to force majeure. Again, my insurance company and 2 roofers told me that the roof shows massive signs of FAULTY WORKMANSHIP and was not properly finished. The roof is not finished and was not finished at the time of purchase. The photos and inspection prove this.

The correct response is for Challenger to remove the tarp and finish installing the shingles and "recertifiy" the roof. Again, there are tons of pictures showing numerous failure points. I have provided all of this information. If it needs to be provided again please let me know!

    Good afternoon -

Thank you for providing detailed photos of your roof.  After reviewing them, we believe the issues shown may be related to both craftsmanship and weather-related factors.

To ensure a thorough assessment, we will be sending out our roofing contractor to inspect the roof in person and identify any concerns specifically related to workmanship.

We appreciate your patience and will be in touch to schedule the inspection shortly.

I am rejecting this response because: to simply keep the case open. I will await the phone call and roofer inspection. Please note: I have a roofing contractor scheduled to come repair the roof tomorrow. His cost should not exceed $1,000. There no more need for verifying if faulty or poor workmanship, in my personal opinion. That has been done from numerous sources and my insurance company. The repair is about to take place and if you can align with this for evidence reasons, sure, but the correct action would just be to reimburse us for the necessary repairs needed to bring the roof back to good standing. I will pay for the ensuing damages....

I am rejecting this response because: work was completed over the weekend at a slightly higher cost. Invoice came out to $1,750 after all areas of the roof were corrected. This cost does not include the water mitigation and restoration. I will accept this and we can move on.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/25/2025

    Good morning -

Thank you for the update.  As previously communicated, we agreed to reimburse up to $1,000 as a gesture of goodwill, despite the roof issue falling outside of the warranty period.  We understand the homeowner proceeded with the repairs over the weekend and that the final invoice exceeded the amount originally discussed.  However, our agreement was clear regarding the $1,000 reimbursement cap, and we must honor that commitment as stated.  We will gladly issue the $1,000 reimbursement upon receipt of a detailed invoice.  While we understand this may not cover the full scope of work performed, we hope it reflects our good faith effort to bring this matter to a reasonable and timely resolution.

    Thanks,

I am rejecting this response because: until payment is received I do not feel comfortable approving. Once I receive your partial reimbursement (the $1,000 maximum limit you've stood with), I will accept the claim as Approved but not fully resolved. We can consider this specific communication resolved, but most definitely not the build quality of our home.

I have attached the invoice again. How and when will I receive payment? Can I go into a local Challenger Office to expedite the process?

    Good morning -

In order to move forward with the reimbursement, please submit your invoice through our standard warranty portal.  This ensures that your request is properly documented and routed to the appropriate team for processing.  Once your submission is received, well review it and proceed with the reimbursement process in accordance with our previously stated commitment.

When I moved into my home the vent in my upstairs bathroom never worked. I contacted the business and they never sent anyone to fix it, now they are saying it is outside of their warranty window. I had an electrician come out and they stated Challenger wired my bathroom wrong and there is constant power flowing through the bathroom. Challenger refuses to fix their negligence.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/06/2025

    Good Morning -

We reviewed all past warranty claims, construction notes, requests and emails with the homeowner and could not find any concerns or submittals regarding an upstairs bathroom vent.  Only recently did we receive a warranty claim stating their bathroom vent was no longer working and that extended beyond the mechanical warranty which resulted in a denial.  However, as a courtesy, we will be reaching out to the homeowner to set up a time and date to visit the home and assess the non-functioning vent.

I am writing to formally address several outstanding warranty requests concerning our new home, purchased in December 2022.Fencing: The quality of the installed fence has proven to be inadequate, with wooden planks beginning to detach shortly after closing.Landscaping Issues: We have experienced significant sliding of the landscaping rock due to the grade of the yard. While wooden posts were installed to mitigate this issue, they have not been effective and are visually unappealing. We have inquired several times regarding when our wild grass will be seeded, but have yet to receive a response. Additionally, we have taken it upon ourselves to plant shrubs in the front yard due to a lack of communication. We have inquired about the specified quantity of sod and rock that was to be included in our landscaping, as well as the actual amounts used. Unfortunately, we have not yet received a response regarding this information.Drainage Problems: We submitted a request regarding a drain issue in the backyard; however, the incorrect drain was addressed. I have made multiple attempts to reach the warranty team without success.

I purchased my house from Challenger Homes last month. We had the first rainfall since the purchase. All the windows leak into the house, the front door leaks water into the house, the garage door leaks water into the garage and the bathroom vent leaks when it rains. They still have not fixed the pre inspection items such as a broken exterior vent, 2 dead plants, dead grass in the backyard, Dead Tree in the back yard, peeling paint off the back door etc.

I have reached out to this homeowner at 12:19 PM Friday 8/9. The gentleman I spoke to was in ***** at the Olympics. He did express his concerns being none of his orientation items are completed and that he reached out to the emergency line or some leaking windows. Due to the homeowner being in *****, he did give me a contact for his girlfriend. I have reached out to her via phone call at 12:27pm and left a voicemail to see if we can coordinate a time for me to go out to the home to assess the concerns.  I have not currently heard back as I write this email.  I will update as soon as I hear back.

Met with homeowners girlfriend later that afternoon and repaired numerous items and scheduled work to get completed.  When I left, the homeowner's girlfriend was happy with the resolutions.

I bought a home from Challenger Home Builder in September 2021. Since then, I've been experiencing flooding issues in my backyard. The builder has attempted to fix the problem multiple times, but their latest attempt has left a PVC pipe sticking out of the ground, which was meant to divert water from the sloping backyard. Unfortunately, the pipe is collecting water instead of diverting it because it's sticking up out of the ground. The builder also laid fresh sod over the pipe, which has now died as grass can't grow where the pipe is. Despite my repeated requests, I've been brushed off and told to wait until springtime. It's now July and I'm still being pushed off, with the builder claiming that the contractor is too busy. This situation is unacceptable, and I don't believe anyone would find it acceptable to have pipes sticking out of their backyard. I have had a couple of quotes and visits from landscaping companies to help and also change some things in the backyard. I have photos of the flooding and the pipe; however, it won't let me download them to this site.

I have only lived in my home for a year and a half now. I have had so many issues since then. It is sad to say that I have tried to go through the warranty department and they are not willing to help me. My flooring is all cracked and breaking already, my water pipes outside are cracked and breaking, and I have had several plumbing issues since I have lived here. I am scared to see how many more issues I will have in the future. All I want is simply to get my flooring fixed, my pipes repaired, and support from Challenger homes. No new home buyer should have these many issues in the first two years!

I bought a home built by Challenger in May 2023. The home is still under warranty. The problem occurs when the heat or ac runs, there is unusually loud pinging, banging, clanging and popping in the air ducts. Its so noisy that I have to turn the heat/ac off at night in order to sleep. I reported the problem back in May of 2023, and the heating and air company has come out a number of times and tried to alleviate the problem by cutting holes in the living room ceiling and adjusting the positioning of the air ducts, but unfortunately it hasnt helped. Theyve also said the home needs new insulation but no one has come out to fix the insulation or replace the air ducts.Ive had holes in my ceiling since the summer and still no resolution. Im not here to complain about Challenger homes, I really love my house but the air duct issue is a real problem and I really would like to get it fixed as soon as possible so I can run the heating again at night and have my ceiling made whole again.Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Bought a new home in 2022 and during the warranty period we had a settlement crack at the stairs. They responded and repaired crack. However when they painted they used the wrong sheen. By the time I noticed it was wrong this item was out of warranty. It has been out of warranty for a year. They wont repaint it. I also noticed they used different sheens on the inside of the house. The light has to hit it just right so you can see it. So I didnt see it right away. I am just disappointed that I have to make this repair on a house that is two years old. For me it is easy to see what the right thing to do is.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic.
