Hi, Ive been doing construction for 23 years and recently i had my home painted. The contractor was referred to me and after meeting him felt like I would go with his company. He told me how he attended the chamber of commerce meetings and was involved with the bbb. The first day two people showed up and they were kinda skinny and looked like recovered drug addicts or currently using. I gave them a chance and after daily problems we agreed to go our own ways. I spoke with him many times before that and voiced my concerns about how they were working and not doing what we had agreed to in the beginning. I paid him $1500 but he wanted $2500 saying the job has half complete. I told him I had pictures, witnesses, daily notes, and didnt agree to that. He has refused my payment and threatening the process to put a lien on my house for the full amount $4800. He never completed the job and is being completely unreasonable. I had to pay another contractor $5,500 to repaint the whole house including his work because it was unprofessional. This paint job will cost me over $7000 plus time lost. Can you help?Business Response

A reasonable resolution would be for ************* to consider the customers additional expenses and time lost in this matter. His response is not satisfactory and full of exaggeration and even some lies. This is not the response I would expect from a company that has the BBB on his business card and as a member of the chamber of commerce. I would like to proceed by agreeing to $2,000 settlement, meeting in the middle, and we both lose equally.
The reason we are here today is because the paint job was unprofessional, steps were skipped, and I could not stand behind the product when selling my house. I couldnt put my name on that paint job and have a buyer have to repaint it sooner than necessary due to bad craftsmanship. Its not the right thing to do. ************** has the BBB on the front of his business card and I hope he is taking this opportunity seriously to resolve this issue. I hope he has not put that on his card as a marketing scheme only with no respect to the organization.
I have lost time, money, paint i provided that was covered up by another company, cleaning costs of overspray on multiple windows, doorbell, peephole, and the foundation, I lost the opportunity to take listing pictures with the fall colors around my house, time screening replacement painters, sleep, and production time. I ask this be considered in the bill its only fair.
************* was contracted to spray and back roll the house. I asked him if he could replace some damaged siding on the front also since I didnt have a ladder long enough. He agreed and said he had a **** for that and could start the next day. We continued to walk the property and I showed him the one carport that needed to be emptied before painting and pointed out the replacement siding and I told him I already primed them and they were ready for install. He acknowledged that and said his **** could move the items but I informed him I would move it myself. I said I would do the prep work but if I missed anything would he be able to prep it and he said yes. I told him I would call and schedule when I was done with the prep work.
I want to include my notes now of when his **** started to show my concerns.
Monday no back olling or prep, painted door bell and paper stuck to front door
Tuesday short day no prep concerned about paint drips I rolled o er after they left
Wednesday called and voiced concern, installer confronted me and argued for 10 mins, listened to son disrespect his dad and not listen to his instruction, lied about backfilling, papered windows on driveway side and left for 6 days had an attitude most of the day. He explained to me that his son was abused and it seemed he had to be real patient with him so he wouldnt become a mass shooter, he taped some brick
Thursday short day
Friday taped off brick and left over the weekend to be rained on and wind blow loose, 3 out of 4 side windows left taped?
Tuesday
Wednesday
Painted the siding that will be replaced
Painted and it rained 1 hr later
Tried leaving after lunch and I had to talk them into staying and doin what they can
End of notes
************* has raised his voice at me, cussed at me, threatens a lien, lawsuit, accuses me of not accepting mail, and accused me of no intention of paying him, its becoming harassment.
I had another painter paint my home for $5,500. He was not comfortable finishing what was left because it was uneven in too many areas and he could not warranty Mr. ****** work. He agreed the paint job was not complete, had many unfinished areas, and required additional prep. He repainted the whole house, did some prep work, and supplied additional paint. The new painter is available to go into detail of the areas painted and not painted before he started. The house was not painted as much as ************** described in his reponse. We had only 2 conversations with the new company. One was agreeing to spray and back roll in the beginning and the second was to walk the house to see if we have missed anything at the end of the job. It was ******* clear anytime I walked by that there were two people working the house. One sprayed and the other followed him back rolling. That took one day ONLY. I did not see that with ************ on the first couple days. I have many witnesses to Mr.****** **** activities on the jobsite. The constant smoking in the van and occasionally yelling directions from the van to his wife that just learned to paint this year. This is what the contractor himself told me. The working all over the house with no apparent plan. I also have many more pictures Id like to provide for this case in order to be resolved here.
I am rejecting this response because:

I am rejecting this response because: the house was painted professionally. He was contracted to spray and backroll the home. He did not do so and I had to ask him multiple times to do it. He quit the job and walked off leaving me to pay someone to clean the paint overspray off and find another painting company to finish. It cost me an additional $5,500. He did not paint the carport inside and out as described nor 3 sides of the home 100%. He has filed a lien for the full amount when he didnt finish anything complete. He raised his voice and cussed at me so I asked him to leave the jobsite so it would not escalate. He has not offered any options to resolve this. He just wants ***** no matter what no compensation whatsoever for his mismanagement of the job. He has taken no responsibility during this time. I will pay *********************************************** over ***** at this point.
Sincerely,
