    The water in an ionic foot bath turns brown due to a chemical process called electrolysis that occurs when an electrical current is applied to the metal components in the water. This causes the electrodes to rust, and the resulting reaction produces the brown color and sediment, a process that happens even without a person's feet in the water. Electrolysis: The electrical current causes the ions in the salt water to react with the metal of the foot bath's electrode array.Rusting: The electrodes, typically made of a metal like stainless steel, begin to rust from the constant electrical charge.Color change: This rusting process is what turns the water brown and creates a REMOVEDtoxin removal: Scientific consensus states that this reaction is solely due to the electrolysis process and is not a sign of toxins being removed from the body. Studies have shown that no toxins from the human body are detected in the water after use.
