Action appliance sent out ******* on 6/6/2025 to fix my washer. ******* let me know the control board needed replacing and quoted me $655 to get my machine running again. I put $600 down. They sent another tech on 6/10/2025 and he the tried replacing the control board. It right away malfunctioned and at that point he called his office before even consulting me. After talking to them he informs me it would be over another $300 (they later dropped it down to $200)to fix the drain pump as well and that he still has to collect the remaining $55 before he leaves. At this point I am livid. I call the office and speak to two different ladies who threatened me to pay because they still came out and did the work . I had no working washer. I questioned why did ******* not diagnose the machine correctly. The tech that subsequently came had more experience and let me know that he has had experiences with this problem and would have quoted both control board and drain pump. So essentially if the initial technician had more experience I would have known exactly what would have needed replacing and I would have not spent over $800. With that I could of just bought a new working machine. I am upset and the office ladies are unreasonable and offer no money back even though they were wrong. . I guess their reasoning is you would have to replace both parts anyways.. but as customers we also have the option of choosing whether or not we would like to repair the machine or buy a new one. Even the tech said I wouldnt put any more money into this machine They are very unprofessional and I will not be referring them to anyone I know.Initial Complaint

I made an appointment with Action Appliance to assess my leaking washing machine. As standard operation, they told me if I hire them to fix the leak, I won't pay the diagnostic fee. The man who showed up was named "******" - he would not give me a business card or his last name. He LOOKED at my washing machine (didn't touch it, move it, or barely look at it), and told me it needed new valves. I asked if he could replace it and he went to his truck to see "if he had the parts". He was outside my house for 20 minutes and then told me he didn't have the parts but they could order them and replace it on Monday (its Friday) for $549! We talked about how the cost to replace a valve (roughly $20 on amazon - he confirmed the part I was looking at) should NOT be $549 but he said there was nothing he could do. When I asked to talk to a manager (because clearly I'd rather have these guys fix it than pay the diagnostic fee and still have a broken washing machine) he said he's not working today. "******" and I talked at length about how disingenuous this costing was because I either pay him the $549 or I pay the "diagnostic fee" - either way it's a terrible deal for me. Now that I have dug deeper online, I see SEVERAL reviews of this company doing the same scammy thing. Isn't the BBB supposed to help get companies like this shut down? The business had a 4.3 review from the site I found them on, but the BBB has complaint after complaint (which is likely more accurate). I want my diagnostic fee back. "******" guessed at the issue and had NO intention of fixing it. I asked for his managers name and he said "**** - but I won't give you his last name" - This is terrible business practices. These folks should be shut down so other people don't get scammed. Please read the BBB complaints -they all sound the same. I have a picture of "******" and his truck (since he wouldn't give me any real names. He didn't even shut off the water to the leaking maching.Initial Complaint

Technician came out to look at an issue with my washing machine. He said I needed a new transmission that would cost $1,400 and that "might" fix the issue or might not. I paid him their $155 diagnostic fee and declined to have them do the fix. The next day I had a competing appliance repair company come out and they quickly diagnosed that the issue was a faulty sensor that is a $40 part. They completed the job including parts and labor for $285 and the washer is fixed. The technician from Action Appliance either didn't know what he was doing or was trying to take advantage of me by selling me a massive job that I didn't need. When I contacted the company to explain the issue after the fact and request a refund of the $155 diagnostic fee, they were dismissive and combative and said they would not refund the fee. Really terrible service.Initial Complaint

My fridge went down on Saturday, March 8th this year. I googled fridge repairs and the first number that I received was for the company Action Appliance. I called and a technician arrived on the same day. The cost of repairs was huge and the technician asked me if I want to go with this. I said yes. I paid a portion of the costs, $725 using two credit cards, one for $300 and the other for $425. Nobody told me about the policy for cancelling a service. The secretary only told me about the charge for the technician coming to diagnose the repairs.Nobody warned me that there was a 25% cancellation fee, if I changed my mind after scheduling the repairs. The technician who came to see the fridge only told me about the total cost, $1450, and asked if I wanted to schedule the repairs. As I mentioned, it was the weekend, the price was exorbitant, and I was stressed to my utmost, because I had lost the use of my fridge. I said yes, without reading the small print. I still believe that I was a victim of unfair practices, due to the people working for Action Appliance not fully disclosing the details of their policy. I believe that I'm not the only person who suffered like this. Another issue is the length of time I had to wait for my money to be returned. I paid on May 8, 2025. I was supposed to get a refund of $207.55. I called Action Appliance twice to speed up the refund, but without results. On April 14, more than a month after my initial payment, I finally saw the refund made to my credit card.I believe that I have been wronged by Action Appliance in two ways: first, they used my agitation and stress to deceive me into signing the repairs contract, without revealing the 25% cancellation fee. Second, they stalled the refund for over 30 days, disregarding my calls.I believe I'm not the only injured customer and I hope something can be done to prevent Action Appliance from further operations.Initial Complaint

The technician came to repair our nonfunctional dryer for roughly ***** mins. Over the phone, I gave him directions to the suspected issue following us replacing the 4 roller bearings, the idler pulley, and thendrum belt. The belt tension was good akd the roller bearings and idler pulley spun freely. The electric motor would not start, so I suspected i had knicked a wire or connector dyring my repair the night before. I feel confident I can make those judgements and potential problem area becuase I am both a manufacturer and *** certified mechanic. These are components inregularly diagnose, but don't work on 240v systems, hence me calling for electrical repair. The technician said the belt was the wrong size and used the split belt (the one we decided to replace on account of it beginning to fail) which had been thrown in the trash. He has essentially undone work we had already done, then gave us an additional quote for nearly $300 to replace the failing belt. The technician then billed my fiance $288, following a $150 doscount for the *****mins of labor. The invoice is not itemized nor does it show a labor rate. I called their company, and the representative told me that they do not use a labor rate, and wouldnnot explain how they came to a $430 bill beofre a discount. She said that was the labor cost and that they didnt charge us for parts (the one they took out of my trash). I suspect he picked a price and was abusing the fact hes come into a house and can bill my fiance who didn't know better on what it should cost.Initial Complaint

On 09/30/2025 we requested assistance from Action Appliance, Inc. (Technician 06, no name listed on invoice) with a washing machine repair. The repairman provided a quote of $585.03 for a drain pump that (that retails for $88.15 according to the manufacturers website). We were skeptical of the price; however, the technician assured us that he could have the part delivered within 1-2 days. He then stated it could come as early as the next day. Based on this promise, and the fact that the company promised to wave the $160 visit fee, we agreed to pay half of the sum up front. After two days of not hearing from the company, we contacted their office. The office advised the original timeframe we agreed to was not correct, and it would take 3-5 days minimum for the part to arrive. When advised that this was not the agreed upon timeframe we were told our only option was to pay a 25% cancellation fee. We opted to wait the 3-5 days. The company sent a repair person out on Friday, Oct 4th. The repair person advised they had ordered the wrong part and it would be an additional 3-5 days for a new part to arrive. I told the repair man that we would not agree to those terms and it was already 2 days later than originally agreed - he referred me to the office. The operator at the office stated she did not have the authority to waive the cancellation fee. I advised I felt the contract was entered under false pretenses. I was transferred to the owner who refused to discuss the situation and threatened that his lawyer would "kick my a** in court". He then hung up. I waited approximately 1 hour before calling back and speaking with the same operator. I asked to pay the cancellation fee to ensure there was no balance owed on my part.Initial Complaint

I had Action Appliance out to repair a gas range. The company came out on 9/7, said I needed a thermal coupling and gasket and said it would cost $570. They returned on 9/19 to install the new parts. As soon as the technician left we tried to use the oven and it wouldn't work. The technician was still parked outside and we went and got him and he returned and did some more work. He left and we tried the oven again and it would not work. I called the company again and was told they would return 9/20. Did not show up. Called again and was told they would be there 9/21. Technician came and worked on oven. Oven still did not work. Called again and was told they would come back out 9/24. They rescheduled to 9/25. Did show up and rescheduled again to 9/26. Technician came out and now says we need a different part for another $349. I called the company and expressed my concern that my appliance must have been misdiagnosed by the first 2 technicians and asked the company to cover the cost of the new repair or to somehow negotiate with me regarding the cost. I was told by the person on the phone that he disagreed with my assessment and they would not cover the cost. I asked to speak to someone in charge/owner and was told the person I was speaking to was the owner, ****. I asked for his last name and he refused to provide it. The owner of this company accused me of extortion and said that I was trying to extort money from him by asking the company to take any sort of responsibility for what has happened. I told him I did not want to pay an additional $349 for another part and that I would be filing a complaint. He then proceeded to tell me it was against the law to file any sort of complaint or negative review about his company. He also told me it was a recorded call in an attempt to threaten me. He proceeded to yell at me and when I brought it to his attention that he was yelling, he told me that I must have had a very messed up childhood.Initial Complaint

Action Appliance Charged a non refundable $129.00 to diagnose our appliance *** fridge) problem which was explained clear and acceptable. Once if/we agree to the problem being fixed the $129.00 would be applied to the total cost. Friday Evening Technician 16 arrived as planned and took 5 minutes to understand that the compressor failed. He was clear on total price, and said that he could come out Monday morning to fix everything (as the compressor was in stalk) as they do not work on the weekends. Total to be charged was verbally stated $1450.00. He instructed my wife that we could pay half now or all later. My wife paid in full. She then was provide no opportunity to review any documents, signed blindly out of trust in a mobile device. Not documentation was sent to use until Monday after requesting it several times. Saturday morning we decided to purchase a new fridge and cancel the appliance service (less than 12 hours later) only to find out there is a 25% cancelation fee of the total cost. Which was never explained, not parts had to be ordered. No business was ever lost. The representative I spoke to on Saturday said the manager would call me to discuss this poor business proactive. two day later Monday evening at 9PM a "manager" at action Appliance called and told me they would not have the 25% cancelation as it was my wife's responsibility to read the contract that she signed. We never received a contract, never received an emailed receipt, never was provided an opportunity to read anything on the provided tablet. Just so everyone is clear, the "Manager" at Action Appliance doesn't provide similar training and word tracks to her "employees" she cannot control what they say or don't say. technical was clear about every part of the process including what we are the be charged except the 25% cancelation? Also, lack of documentation (me having to ask for a contract several times only to received it 4 days later)Business Response

I am rejecting this response. Being absolutely clear on everything else regarding Payment, Repairs and purposefully leaving out providing us with a contract and/or a receipt for 3 days is fraudulent. No contact was provided for us to read, until I requested a cancelation only then was it provided. The lack of understand of this the business part is embarrassing. Telling a client that you do not take responsibility for your repair technician is admitting fault. A statement was made to me that you do not control what your technicians say or do not say.
Sincerely,

Refrigerator not cooling. Called this company. They sent a tech to check it out. Tech was in my house for ten minutes. He never checked a single thing. He came in with no tools. Not a bolt meter nor a Freon pressure checker. Nothing. He, without a single test, declared my compressor was dead and I needed a new one. He left for five minutes and came back with a quoted price of 1500 dollars. The price of a new refrigerator. I opted to pass on the repair and just buy a new fridge. He charged my card ****** and left. A few hours later, my brother in law came over and looked at it. Dirty compressor coils. Thats it. He vacuumed them and the fridge worked just fine. The very obviously foiled coils were in the wide open and right next to the compressor. This is a very obvious issue and the tech didnt even mention it. He didnt suggest that was the problem and/or offer it as a potential fix. With no tools in hand, he took my money and left. What was wrong with my fridge is the most simple and baseline issue a fridge can have when its not making cold air. A possibility that simply must be addressed before declaring a five year old fridge is completely dead. The coils were so dirty and clogged there was no way they were pulling air and thats exactly what was happening. The tech took no time, failed to do even the most basic test and left with my money. This is basically the same as a mechanic declaring your car is a loss since it wont start and later finding out it simply didnt have gas in it. The most basic reason a car isnt running. I feel stolen from and blown off. I ran out and bought a fridge to be delivered a few days later based on the techs opinion mine was dead. I even bought a small fridge to transfer all my stuff to while waiting for the full size delivery. I was able to cancel the full size purchase but this companies lazy money collecting was frustrating. Original fridge is cleaned and running just fine and required no actual repairs!Business Response

Refrigerator not cooling well. Serviceman barely checked refrigerator and indicated we needed new parts. Total cost to be $789.64. I paid a deposit of $394.82. Refrigerator started working shortly afterwards spontaneously. I called four times to cancel and request a refund and was told someone would return my call. No one returned my call and finally I called again today, 8/1/2024 and was told they would only refund $72 dollars. I believe this is an attempted ripoff and previous postings on BBB site suggests this company is trying to take advantage of it customers. Good Morning,
We appreciate your business. We do have a cancellation policy that is in the case that you want to be let out of the contract you entered into. We never want you to feel taken advantage of so please call with any questions you may have. In our experience machines do not repair themselves so it probably is an intermittent problem and will require the parts again. If it presented you with a problem and it was still happening when the technician diagnosed it, then there is no way to say in good conscious that it does not need any repair.

I am rejecting this response because: As per our previous telephone conversations you wish to charge me a cancellation fee of $322, returning $72 of the $394 paid. You base this up a cancellation fee in the fine print in the contract which I was unaware of. This is unacceptable to me on ethical grounds. In the past my wife handled all household matters. The technician should have in good faith pointed out to me that I could purchase a new refrigerator for less money. I believe as a senior citizen I was taken advantage of.
