    Alert:

Consumers have alleged Chawla Technical Support remotely accessed their computers to resolve technical support issues and then charged them for those services. Consumers have also reported that they are contacted again and told they will receive a refund, but the company must remotely access their computer to provide the refund. According to the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) article, How to Spot, Avoid and Report Tech Support Scams, "Tech support scammers want you to believe you have a serious problem with your computer, like a virus. They want you to pay for tech support services you don't need, to fix a problem that doesn’t exist."

Tech support scammers convince their victims that their computers or other devices are infected with malware or under attack by hackers. To do this they may call and tell you they represent some big tech company; they may embed websites with malicious code that causes a “pop-up” window to appear on your screen warning you that your computer has a virus and you should call their 800 number for assistance; or, they often take advantage of the way search engines work by spamming forums and other free posting sites with messages like “call ‘our phone number’ for Apple tech support.”

If your computer is hijacked by a tech scammer’s pop-up, ask for help from a computer savvy friend or take your computer to a brick and mortar repair shop. Tech scammers always ask to remotely connect to your computer. Never allow anyone you don’t trust to access your computer because, if you do, you will be exposing anything saved on your computer, including passwords, bank account information, tax returns, etc.

I am a 97 year old female: November 29, 2022, I needed HP printer repair, thought that I was directed to Chawla Technical Support by HP, I allowed access to my Mac for repairs, paid $199.99 by remote check from my checking account for the repairs and one year of service. My customer # with them is *****., toll free #**********. Several different techs worked a couple of hours on repairs. Printer seems to be working well and computer speed seems better. Still, as I research the company, I am convinced that I have been spammed and that my information may have been compromised. I wonder: Can they now access my computer without my consent? Can I safely change my passwords? What do I do now? Please help me!
