We're a non profit project currently renovating an old church camp. We had already been in contract with Sutter roofing to renovate two staff housing we liked on 7/25/22 we received the quote for the re-roofing of three cabins on our property, prior to this date I walked with the ** of the company Nate Sutter, about the roofs, I initially wanted a quote for shingles, after much discussion, he seemed to be very passionate about us going with metal roofs and said he'd throw in some solar tubes if we conceded. I told him I would talk to our team and get back to him promptly. We conceded and agreed once his team freed up some time they would start working on the cabins. The team transitioned to working on the cabins shortly after, finished one roof fairly quickly, we have not had any issues with that cabin, the solar tubes were installed completely, with the interior completed for light and the exterior seems and has yet to pose any problems. They moved on to the next cabin, during this time we were seeing anywhere from 98 degrees Fahrenheit to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, we checked on the team daily; out of kindness of our heart and when they asked to work earlier so that they may beat the heat and end the day earlier, we agreed, at times the crew was working at 5 am and left by 1pm. Around this time is when things started to get funky, I'd find the crew often resting and not working, so we started getting cold beverages and encouraged them to use the refrigerator in one of the cabins. During some of our conversations with *************************** and ************************* the Sales Representative, their was an undocumented informal agreement that we, our non profit would complete the inside of the solar tubes, we had agreed to doing the same with the staff housing with some minor details like shiplapping the interior exposure to the skylights or agreeing to seal any dry wall holes left exposed from the installation of the full solar tube. This seemed a much bigger agreement but we had a construction crew on site and when I ran it with our contractor they said slipping in an aluminum tube up the ceiling and capping the interior would not be too difficult. While into working on the third cabin we added an ad on to one of the staff housing and pulled the ******* to see it and asked them to please talk to **** about adding it to the work. They said it wouldn't be a problem and they would get it done before they packed up from the whole cabins. I was on vacation the week they wrapped up, our infrastructure lead sent me a text saying the roofers are done but the solar tubes aren't in. I then emailed and then texted with both **** and ***** at several times they assured me they would come back and do final touches, they came back while I was not on the property they said they spoke with our other executive director, he has confirmed he did not speak to them. However they told me the work was complete and that they would leave all the pieces of what was remaining for the solar tubes in the cabins. Since then we asked them to return to do the roof of the add on which they came did in a day and left promptly. There has been many attempts to get clarity on what was left undone with the solar tubes and in fact all the parts to complete the work were not there. Since then our team has been figuring out when to complete the work since the scope of completion has been different, the winter months approached and with holidays we held off till after the rains. When we had the atmospheric river in January we had 4 solar tube lids fly off and complete drench the inside of the ceiling. We have since been on an emailing back and forth with **** Sutter about the lack of communication of what was left undone, in none of the other properties they roofed that we agreed to do a portion of the work in the interior to finish did we have to worry about the exterior, one cabin had to have the whole ceiling and roof insulation replaced. On another cabin when we climbed up to cover the lids we found that the caulk around a vent was peeling, and that there was leftover slack secured into the roof from when the workers were working. Part of the scope of work is to get the roofs permitted, he sent a guy over to do a final inspection of the staff housing and when I took him to the cabins he said the work was not complete and would need to come back and that **** Sutter had not yet requested an inspection for permitting. To make matters worse while working up here, one of his workers stapled a note on a tree with derogatory language on our main road and an angle grinder went missing when letting his workers take refuge in our garage during a hot day. We have shared this all with *************************** and he has failed to take any responsibility.
