  I heard a loud bang and found my garage door would barely move. When the Melikson Garage Door technician showed up, he showed me the problem was a busted spring. He gave me a quote for a new spring at a lower, medium (what I currently had for $400) and "heavy duty" range for $600. I opted for replacing what I had but that's when the experience turned negative. Two times I tried to argue for a standard replacement only to have him make me feel stupid for choosing that option. I agreed to him using the heavy duty. That must have opened the flood gates because then he was talking about replacing the entire motor even though I'd had zero issues. Was it ***** yrs old? Yes. He kept pushing on new items. Finally, frustrated, I asked for an overall quote when I should have listened to my Spidey sense and kicked him out the garage door. He wrote down the pricing but didn't give me a copy, nor did he have me sign the work order or initial it. The total came to $1,862 which was way higher than I expected, but I said OK. During the work he called me back down and showed me a couple of wheels he said needed replacing. It wasn't presented as a choice. What he didn't tell me is it would add over $1,000 to the total. I was shocked when the final bill was $2,962, especially when later I realized the $1,500 motor system retailed at about $400-600 later. I felt scammed and it must have showed on my face because he got very defensive. I wrote the check to avoid another 5% charge using a credit card because the work was done and he couldn't very well rip it out. I'd honestly never call these guys again and NEVER recommend them to anybody. His work was good, I'd say, but his approach aggressive and deceptive. Usually I'm better at push back but the guy was more like a used car dealer and I just wanted the job done and him out. I'm also suspicious because nothing on his uniform, truck or the final receipt said Melikson. My guess is they sub-contract. Find somebody else.

  Melikson Garage Door is top notch. The design consultant spent as much time with me as I needed going over options. I never once felt rushed, even though I am sure I kept asking to see the same doors again and again. Then an installation expert with something like 27 years experience in installing garage doors came to make sure the door I chose would work on my garage. Their whole process was so seamless, transparent and honest. The installation team was on time (they even gave me the option of coming a day early, actually!!), skilled, and clean. I was very happy with my experience with this company and I love my new door!
