Yesterday, February 8, 2024, I received a call from someone who implied he was a LinkSys employee, saying he needed to help me get rid of a problem in my PC (a PC running Windows 11) . He said he's a network genius and could fix anything, as well as detecting problems that should be solved. He said I have been getting thousands of errors flooding my home network and he needed to install a FIREWALL to protect my network. He wanted several hundred dollars for the job. $999.99 was a figure he suggested. I pushed back saying it would have to come down. We eventually agreed on a payment of $240 to his company for a 2-year SOFTWARE FIREWALL, and I have to presume it would be installed on my ISP's server, wherever that is. I later figured out that this was a disgusting scam. I just checked with the BBB and found several others have been scammed along exactly the same lines - LinkSys network devices like the one I recently purchased online. I'm guessing they monitor **** and other websites for LinkSys purchases. Maybe for other devices too.

I was installing a linkss router and a chat popped up and asked if I needed help so I said yes thinking it was linkss. Then a technician called me. I explained what I was doing and she said she could help me. She asked what lights did I see. I told her the white light on the front of the router and a blinking yellow light beside the Ethernet port. She said that should never be blinking and that I had something wrong with my system and needed access to fix it. So I said yes. This was a lie. Now that my router is installed that light always blinks. This was fraudulent to charge me $199.99 plus tax. I am not going to pay it

I encountered Geek Infotech Solutions thinking that I was chatting with tech support at Linksys. After logging on to the Linksys website I saw a window pop up on my screen with the title "Chat with an Expert," or something to that effect. So I typed in my concern that I had lost the password to my Linksys router, to which they replied that they could help, but would need to take control of my computer. Still thinking that I was chatting with Linksys, I gave them permission. But after proceeding from that point I was informed that I had many other problems with my computer that they could fix, given about 45 to 75 minutes, and that a small charge might apply. I consented. When they finished I was informed that charges would be $199.99. I authorized payment. But immediately after that I got in contact with Linksys by phone, who advised me that this was not their technician, and that they do not charge for technical support. A few days later I contacted a local computer technician who I trust completely. When he looked at my computer he found that then only change of significance was that Webroot had been installed, but that it retails for about $40. And they did recover my Linksys password for me. I think I should be refunded for the entire amount that I paid, since they were acting fraudulently from the very outset.
