  My initial impression was favorable. Of course, they needed to get me to sign a contract. I should have been more leery of a business model that inherently precludes repeat business -- you only get solar installed once. My complaints initially fell into two categories -- failure to follow a mutually agreed upon installation plan, and extremely poor communication. However, now I need to add dismissiveness by the owner and the employees with whom I've dealt. I raised very reasonable issues to them, and they could care less. While it is too late for me, I certainly hope that others can be spared pain and suffering at the hands of SmartSolar *****.A SmartSolar employee came to my home -- unannounced, of course, because they rarely if ever give advanced warning of any events or visits -- for an engineering site survey. I happened to be home and we agreed upon an installation plan -- where the panels, "combiner" box, and conduit would go. Months later, they just showed up and did the installation. There was no review of the plan. And they did not follow the plan. It seems like obvious good practice to do a walk-through and go over the installation plan, but that did not happen. We only knew that they were coming at all because we called after months of no communication -- despite my calling and texting my only point of contact. They finished installation in two days, but left materials and trash in middle of a walkway, and nobody said anything. It took over a week to get someone to address it, but only after I contacted them to see what was going on.They have an app they call "base-camp", but it was never updated until after the fact. At various points 4 SS folks were hounding both me and my wife over payments. But the work had not been finished. Their internal communication is non-existent. They could care less to communicate unless they want their money. Treating customers with respect and professionalism are not important to SmartSolar *****.

  Job was completed to the 90% point but the final paperwork and NET Meter was not completed leaving me with a no power benefit and a large bill. Communication has dried up. I've been very patient but it looks like I'll have to file the final paperwork and work with the city and power company to get the job completed.. This is what I paid them for. I'm real worried if I have an warranty issue they won't be any help.*******************

  The end result did get completed and to our liking - but not without a fight. We went through a solar broker so we did not choose Smart Solar. The broker did. He had many good things to say, but when the work was 1/2 done and SDG&E came out, they pointed out a handful of red flags that didn't sit well with us.The installer, ******, self admittedly did a crappy job on our install. Not only did he do shotty work, but he made unnecessary holes in our house, he didn't weather seal anything, and he installed the conduit in the wrong place - he didn't even LOOK at the plans!Once we made the company aware of these red flags, they stood us up twice! No phone call, no email, just radio silence. We took time off work, sat at our house for two days in a row, and for two days, nobody showed up!After my honest review that was left on Yelp (January 2020), the business owner, *********************, bribed me to take the review down. I declined. It's now March 2023 and this business owner decided to respond to my review in a malicious and untrue manner - Trying to hurt me and my character. All because he cannot take ownership of his team's wrongdoings. His falsified message: "Hello. We find it regrettable that you have the desire to post misrepresented and disparaging information. We then looked at the reviews that you gave other companies and realized this is just your nature. We still wish you the best in all your endeavors and will continue to honor our warranty, but regret that you felt it necessary to make up assertions and exaggerate circumstances. We stand by our other client's five star reviews."In reality, how embarrassing for him, I have 119 reviews on my Yelp page and 90% are 5-stars!!!This business is now harassing me and I'm worried that this narcissist is going to do actual hard to me and my family. A police report and restraining order against him and his business are being filed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN. ********************* (who likes to call himself "Ph.*******".
