We registered online course for our kid. Course was "Introduction to Python". This was supposed to be a basic online course for someone new to the programming language. When my kid joins the class there is no zoom link or any other audio and video session. It is just a chat. The instructor mentioned that chat is the best way to learn the programming. There were about ************************************************************** chat. How can a kid follow instructions of downloading and installing python, learn concept of programming just by reading the chat. At least if there is a video link where kid has to watch and instructor is helping to explain then that would be acceptable. This was just the instructor typing in chat screen to teach and that too with 50+ students. This is not an acceptable way of online teaching. This seems to be more of a scam. We did have another class with AOPS for English and it was zoom session with instructor and bunch of kids. This is completely unacceptable to mention it as online course but just communicating with 50+ kids in chat.

    Hi *******,

We want to thank you for sharing your insights about our AoPS Online class format. It sounds like you were expecting to enroll in our ************ Virtual Campus (videoconferencing courses) but instead found the Introduction to Python course with our AoPS Online classes. We're so sorry for any confusion or frustration the difference in style has caused.

I wanted to first note that we allow students to attend the course for the first two weeks with the opportunity to drop for a full tuition refund before the third class. This allows students to see the class format in action and decide if it will be a good match for their learning style. If you'd like to drop the course, please reach out to us at **************** and our team will be happy to review your options.

In the meantime, I want to be sure to include some information about this classroom style as it has been one of the ways we deliver online instruction since the early 2000s. There are multiple reasons why we offer classes without video/audio through AoPS Online. Most notably, weve found there are many students who can more successfully contribute to and actively drive classroom discussion when they're in a text-based environment. These students are generally those who find it easier to focus on the content presented in a class if they aren't required to simultaneously follow auditory input, and those who are more comfortable sending in all of their answers and questions if there's no concern about disrupting their classmates by doing so. All student messages in the **** Online classroom are initially only visible to the instructor and assistants, and they can address student mistakes and questions privately. And we make sure that every class has enough assistants that all questions sent in by students during the live classes will be answered.

Again, we appreciate your insights and invite you to email us directly to discuss next steps for your student.

    Sincerely,
    Art of Problem Solving

OrderID: ******* Date of trnx: 6/22/24 Amount billed: $1025 Business: Art of Problem Solving (Tax ID: 42-1590936)Camp:Writing camp - 8-10 Academic essay writing This summer camp charged me $1025 for a 2 wk writing camp. After the first class I wanted to withdraw my daughter as the class was not engaging at all. My daughter even has pics of kids sleeping in the class, yet the course director is unwilling to give me refund saying that it's their summer camp policy to not refund any money after first day of class. Mind you this is a brand new center that has opened in Mountain view so how can someone try this camp without attending the first class? This is a scam. After repeated requests they kept forcing me to switch to another class which is equally bad. I want my refund and they should be prohibited from running such scammy practices.
